“See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.”
In the ministry of Jesus, one subject matter or concept He taught extensively about is to beware. To beware means to turn one’s mind or attention to a thing by being on one’s guard against it.
Thus, when the Bible tells us to beware, we need to be warned of ensuing danger so that we might be on guard against it.
Colossians 2:8 says, “See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.”
You see, the apostle Paul obviously saw that the Colossian Christians were faced with a great danger of being taken captive by false teaching. Thus, his epistle was for them to “beware”.
Today many things want to take believers hostage and bring them into error. But you must beware of those things.
You must beware of the ungodly, you must beware of sinners, you must beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, you must beware of mockers, you must beware of covetousness. You must not allow anything to corrupt you.
You must know that the devil want to still extend his influence over your life through these vices. This is why you must BEWARE, to stay on your guard and resist any of his attempts to mislead you.
Never compromise your virtues and values as a Christian, be on guard. Avoid being misled in life: stick to the word and follow the leadings of the Spirit.
BEWARE!
Read: 2 Peter 3:17, “Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.”
Prayer: Lord, I pray that you will give me the grace to stay on guard to resist any element of the devil in this times. Amen
