At thy word

Luke 5:5
“And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net”.

When God and his word comes to the scene, it does not matter again what was and has been the case. In fact, what didn’t work and the earlier methods used doesn’t matter also. What matters now is the word of instruction or the word of God.

You see, instead of complaining of past failures or things that didn’t work, resort to the word or the instruction God is giving to you.

God’s word can be trusted. His word is sure and tested and proven. Isaiah had this to say about the word of God “…my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it” (Isaiah 55:11).

Simon after toiling all night with no results to show for it, resorted to God’s word and had his miracle.
Take God at his word. Do what the word says even if you don’t feel like and you will see your blessings and the results you wanted come to pass.

Read: Psalm 119:105 “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path”

Prayer: Lord, I pray that as I resort to your word may it accomplish that which you please to your glory. Amen

Build your spirit

Ephesians 2:1
“And you hath he quickened , who were dead in trespasses and sins”.

One truth that you must know as a Christian is that, man is a spirit. The “real you” is a spirit. So you are first and foremost a spirit, but you have a soul and you live in a body.
Your body is only a tent you live in. Thus, seeing yourself as a “body” or as “natural being” will limit your divine life.

You see, man is supernaturally natural. That is, you are a divine being with the ability to express yourself in the natural.
This is why it is important to give priority to your spirit, and build it up.

Your spirit is made alive when you get saved. Ephesians 2:1 says “And you hath he quickened , who were dead in trespasses and sins”.
But doing nothing about your spirit which is the real you puts you in the class of the “natural” or the “ordinary”.

You need to constantly engage yourself in meditating on the word of God, praying in the spirit, fasting, and fellowshipping with the Holy Spirit to build your spirit. You see, your spirit feeds on God’s infallible word and not stories or fables.

Believers who are lazy, never make progress in nurturing their spirit. It takes hard work and great discipline to build your spirit. You can’t make progress spiritually when you prefer unnecessary chatting to studying, praying and meditating on God’s word.

You must make time out of your busy schedule to study the word, pray in the spirit and worship to build your spirit. This is something you must learn to do as an individual.
Don’t wait to be in Church before you do these things.

Build yourself spiritually and you will always triumph in life.

Prayer: Lord, I pray for grace to build myself spiritually through active engagement of the word and prayer. Amen

Walk in the spirit

John 6:63
“The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life”.

Walking or living by the spirit is one of the best choices a believer must make. You must be determined to live a spirit filled and a spirit led life. That is how you can manifest God’s glory.

Living by the spirit demands that you live solely by God’s word. The believer that is governed by the word of God is simply walking in the spirit.
One preacher puts this truth like this, “living a scriptural life is living a spirit filled life”.
Jesus said in John 6:63 “The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life”.

Living in the spirit is also associated with the manifestation of the fruits of the recreated human spirit.

Galatians 5:22-24 says “But the fruit of the spirit(born again spirit or recreated human spirit) is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.”
People who walk in the spirit are full of love, joy, peace, self-control and the like. There is nothing beautiful like walking in the spirit.

You will always be a great blessing in the body of Christ when you walk in the spirit. Never allow the flesh to hinder you from walking in the spirit. Let go of “bitterness”, “hatred”, “offense”, and any pain that others might have caused you.

Allow your “spirit life” to take over so that God can use you to manifest his goodness to our world.

Read: Romans 8:13 “For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live”

Prayer: Lord, I pray for grace to walk in the spirit in order not to fulfill the desires of the flesh. Amen

Go through the process

Luke 1:80
“The child continued to grow and to become strong in spirit, and he lived in the deserts until the day of his public appearance to Israel [as John the Baptist, the forerunner of the Messiah]”.

Any significant achievement in life is attained through process. Meaning that no one makes it in life without going through the mill.

Going through a process means that you take series of actions or steps to achieve a particular end or goal.
Our opening text teaches how John the Baptist, had to go through process before appearing as the forerunner of Jesus.

John the Baptist had to grow spiritually, he had to separate himself from the masses and as it remain unknown until such time that God will “launch” him.

You see, despite the awesome prophecies about John, he had to go through process to arrive at his God given destination.

Same principle applies today. As a Christian you must avail yourself to go through “process” to make it in life.
Going through process will build your character, make you strong, and wise.

Instead of being in a haste to be significant, pray for grace to be patient as you go through “process” which may include, training, and trials for the greatness God designed for you.

Read: Psalm 37:34 “Wait for and expect the LORD and keep His way, And He will exalt you to inherit the land; [In the end] when the wicked are cut off, you will see it.”

Prayer: Lord, I pray for grace to go through every required process to attain higher heights in life. Amen

You are the light of the world

Matthew 5:14
“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid”.

The mandate or what the Christian ought to be in this world is clear from our opening text.
As Christians we are the light of this world.

Being the light of this world means that, it is our illumination that puts the world on course. By this we bring direction, and hope to this sin doomed world.

Nonetheless, being a light does not mean that, we will automatically bring benefit. How beneficial we will become depends on how we position ourselves.
Matthew 5:15 says “Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house”.

You see, you can’t hide your virtues and your faith, which is the light you must use to influence the world.
In short, you can’t “hide your life” if you are to shine in this world.

Matthew 5:16 says “…let your light shine before others, that they may see…”.
Thus, by your life people must be able to see God’s glory and standard.
Be an example, show the way, and let darkness dissipate.
Shine on!

Prayer: Lord, I pray that my light will shine and affect many lives in this world. Amen

Faith comes by hearing God’s word

Romans 10:17
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God”.


God’s word is the only source of faith. Hearing and studying God’s word brings faith. It turns on the light for courage and action in any awkward situation.

Some are troubled or hard pressed in life because of lack of the word or ignorance. When your faith is inoperative, you will not have it easy going through the storms of life.

Always know that the level of your faith today is your own doing. No one can get faith for you. Although people can carry you on their faith for a season, it will take your own faith for you to enjoy the good of the land every now and then.

You see, when you are full of the word, no one can tell you that something you want to do in line with God’s word is impossible.
This is because when you have God’s word on a matter you become very confident and assured of a better outcome.

Make time for the word and your faith will rise to bring awesome results to you in life.

Faith: 2 Corinthians 5:7 “For we walk by faith, not by sight”

Prayer: Lord, I pray that by consistent study and hearing of you word my faith will rise to do marvelous things. Amen

Right thinking

Proverbs 23:7
“For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.”

Thinking right is one of the great practices that will bless your life. When you make it a practice of thinking right or focusing on the right things, you will get great results in life. You see, when your thinking is right, it will affect what you believe and also influence what you will confess.

The Bible says that as man thinks in his heart so is he. Meaning your thinking “makes you”. You will finally become or have whatever you are thinking in your heart.

Philippians 4:8 says “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy think about such things”.

As a Christian, you must not allow just anything to get into your heart. You must keep your heart and mind on the right things. Only think on whatever is pure, lovely, admirable and excellent.

No matter the situation, always make your thinking right.

Read: Romans 12:2 “And be not fashioned according to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect
will of God.”

Prayer: Lord, I pray for grace to always have the right thinking and mindset. Amen

Enemies of Faith.

Mark 11:22
“And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God”.

Faith is very important to every child of God, because it’s the only avenue through which you can relate and receive from your Heavenly Father.This is why you must guard and keep faith alive at all times.

You see, as a child of God,there are things that can hinder your faith, and they are the “enemies of faith”.

The number one enemy of faith is worry/anxiety. Anxiety is a feeling of fear or nervousness, It can also mean “to be troubled with the cares of this life”.

Anxiety robs you off your joy and faith in God. It makes you behave as though God is not able.
People who are anxious always step out of faith because they can’t wait for the manifestation of what God has promised.
That’s why the Bible says “Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God” ( Philippians 4:6)

Another enemy of faith is the “flesh”. Walking in the flesh is to be alive and active to the demands of the flesh and not the spirit. The flesh will always cause you to make sense or be sensual, but faith demands that your actions must be born out of spirit. For instance your flesh will say, “seeing is believing”, but this is not so when it comes to walking in faith(2 Corinthians 4:18).

Faith looks up to God and to the word.Faith never sees to believe, but rather believes and brings into manifestation the promises of God.

Overcome the flesh and refuse to worry, so you can fully exercise your faith in God.

“For we walk by faith, not by sight”

Prayer: Lord, I pray for grace to avoid and resist every enemy of faith.

How to see and have good days

1 Peter 3:10-11 says …“Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech.
They must turn from evil and do good; they must seek peace and pursue it.”

Having and seeing good days in life is not automatic. It is predicated on some important things or doings.

Every Christian will see life to be worthwhile, interesting or worth living when it is certain that what lies ahead is good and great.

Nonetheless, this state of affairs- when every day is a great blessing, has more to do with you.
The Bible teaches that, keeping your tongue from evil, deceitful speech and turning away from evil are great seeds that can make your future great and bright.

You see, talking anyhow, saying things to mislead or misinform people and doing evil will never give anyone a glorious life.
In fact, this is God’s recipe for success and is not something you can’t do.

Hold on to this truth, carefully engage it in your life, and you are sure to have good and glorious days ahead.

Read: Proverbs 18:21 “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof”

Prayer: Lord, I pray that you will open my eyes to see good days and may my words not contradict it. Amen

Are you offended ?

Mark 6:3
“Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him”.

People have different reasons for which they get offended at people. Nonetheless, nothing justifies their action of taking offense as Christians.

Offended people live with hurts and wounds from their dealings with others. They also become resentful in life.
But as a Christian, God wants you to let go of offense.

Never take or let offenses burden your life.
Our opening text in Mark tells how some people got offended at Jesus on things one can say are trivial.

Today, there are people who are offended because of the way someone spoke with them, or treated them. Some are also offended at people because of pride and their own ego.

Whatever the case, God wants you to go through life without keeping offenses. Don’t act towards people from the wells of bitterness or offenses. Learn to let go.

Read: John 16:1″These things I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended”

Prayer: Lord, I pray for grace not to live in or keep offenses. Amen
