Be fast in obeying the Lord!

Psalm 119:60
“I made haste, and delayed not to keep thy command”.

Your attitude or response to God’s word or instructions must be prompt as a Christian.

When you are fast in obeying the Lord, you do what is required of you immediately. That’s to say that, you give a timely response to every instruction the Lord gives you.

Peter and Andrew, demonstrated this great principle when they were called by Jesus.
See Matthew 4:19-20:
“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him.

As a Christian you must not obey God in your own time and convenience. Today, there are many people who have “pending instructions they have to obey”.
In fact, all that God has instructed them to do is still hanging.

Don’t forget that, delays in obeying the Lord can cost you dearly. It can put your life in danger, you can lose your ministry, and you can even miss out on God’s best for your life.

No matter what it will cost you, prompt or timely obedience will save you and help you greatly.

Read: Luke 11:28 “He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”

Prayer: Lord, I pray for grace to be prompt in obeying your word. Amen

The faithful shall be blessed.

Proverbs 28:20
“A faithful (right-minded) man will abound with blessings, But he who hurries to be rich will not go unpunished”.

Your level of faithfulness determines how blessed you will be in life.

People don’t just get blessed in a vacuum, but God’s blessings are predicated on great virtues like faithfulness. Faithfulness can be in two dimensions- faithfulness to God and faithfulness to man.

Faithfulness to God implies that, one remains true and devoted to God and the things of God without any form of hypocrisy. It also means, your public confession about God and how you relate with Him should be consistent with your private confession. Thus you don’t say one thing in public and do a different thing in private because there’s no visible audience.

You see, God doesn’t expect us to be faithful just to him, but expects us to exude and express this quality when dealing with one another. For instance, God expects a non-negotiable faithfulness between married couples. Also, God expects people in the place of trust; either with the life of others, money, property or anything to be faithful.
You see, whether you like it or not, people will consider you faithful by putting you in the place of trust until you prove them wrong.

Irrespective of how you see faithfulness, God says faithfulness attracts his reward and blessings.
Be faithful!

Read: Proverbs 20:6 “Many people profess their loyalty, but a faithful person–who can find?”

Prayer: Lord, I pray for grace to always stay faithful to you and to man. Amen

Grow up in the Lord!

2 Peter 3:18
“but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen”.

Growing up or growth is one important feature in life. Naturally or spiritually, growth moves us into higher realities.

Growth is a sign of progress. As a Christian, God expects you to grow from one level to another. The new life or being born again, akin to natural birth starts from the “baby stage”.
Thus, there is the need to grow up, and become mature.

Growing up in the Lord may not only be the number of years you might have been a Christian. You must also grow up in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus.

Grow up to know why Jesus died for you, grow up to know the word of the Lord, grow up to know God’s purpose for your life. Growth in these areas will make you firm or steadfast in the faith.

You see, growth in the natural happens when there is proper diet and exercise. The same can be said about your spiritual life. You need to feed on God’s word and to exercise it (put it into practice) to grow.

Don’t be a Christian that is malnourished. Desire to grow. Pray. Fast. Study the word. Exercise your faith. And you will progress daily in your relationship with God.

Read: 1 Peter 2:2 “as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby”

Prayer: Lord, I pray that your grace will help me grow well in you. Amen

Don’t misuse grace!

1 Corinthians 15:10
“But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed on me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me”.

The grace of God extends to all persons. Before and after salvation, the grace of God plays a major part in our lives. We are saved by grace, and we continue in the faith by grace.

Nonetheless, the grace of God when not appreciated and reveared can be taken for granted or misused.
Thus a sound biblical explanation on the subject of grace is very crucial to create a balance in the Christian walk.

You see, inasmuch as grace is free, it is not cheap. It is of a high value in the sight of God.

Grace is God doing in you what you can’t do by yourself. That’s to say, grace is God working on your behalf. Is this something to take for granted?

For instance Christ Jesus came to die to save us because we couldn’t save ourselves. He also restored us to our place of dominion and this is also something man couldn’t have done.
These acts of Grace are expensive.
Grace then becomes free to man, but costly or expensive for God.

Looking at grace in this light means, it’s not something to be misused or abused.

For instance if grace takes away God’s instant wrath from us when we sin, it does not mean grace is a ticket to sin or to live a careless life as a Christian.

Grace doesn’t also confer irresponsibility on the Christian.
Rather the grace demands that we live a more pleasing life to God. Paul puts it this way;
Romans 6:1-2 “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?”

Grace does not say continue to sin, rather it says, you can live above sin. It says you can do more for God than you are doing. It says you are above limitations.

Don’t misuse, abuse or take the Grace of God in vain.
Value grace!

Read: Ephesians 2:8 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God”

Prayer: Lord, I pray that I will not misuse your grace that you have made available for me but by that I will live a life that pleases you. Amen

Do not worry

Matthew 6:25
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?

Living in and with “worry” is one thing you must fight off as a Christian. Irrespective of what circumstance you may face or be going through, “worrying” should not be something you must allow.

To worry means, to think about problems or fears, or to feel or show fear and concern because you think something bad could happen. It also means to become anxious.

When it comes to worry, the Bible clearly states that, do not worry about your life. Instead of worrying, God wants you to look at what is more important- your life. In other words, before you give in to worry due to what to eat, drink or wear, think first about “life”. The life you have that others don’t.

You see, if you have been gifted with the most important thing like being alive, then the rest is not something to worry about.

God’s word teaches that life is more important than food. Thus, instead of worrying about what to eat or wear you should have a heart filled with gratitude.
Not only that, but as a Christian you are not without a guide or protector.
Hebrews 13:5 says “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

No matter what you are going through, God will do His best in your life. Yours is to simply trust. Hold on to the godly values you have received from the word and JEHOVAH JIREH, the provider will supply.

Read: Psalm 23:1″The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing”

Prayer: Lord, pray that worrying will not be an option irrespective of what trouble comes my way.

Let your words bless people

Ephesians 4:29
“Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.”

As a Christian, you must choose your words carefully, in that, when you talk it must edify and bless people.

When it comes to talking, the importance or weight of every spoken word must not be taken for granted.
Words, as the Bible teaches are “creative”. They also have the power to influence the course of people’s lifes.
Your words as a matter of fact can make and unmake people.

Thus anytime you open your mouth to talk let it be a blessing. Speak words that will build people up. Speak words that will encourage and heal the hurting.
Proverbs 16:24 says “Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones” .

Never for one moment of your life use words carelessly. It is important to be discreet when it comes to letting words out of your mouth.
Never talk offensively, or use insulting words on people.

Read: Colossians 4:6 “Let your speech at all times be gracious and pleasant, seasoned with salt, so that you will know how to answer each one [who questions you]” .

Prayer: Lord, I pray that words that will proceed out of my mouth will bless its hearers. Amen

Copy what is good

3 John 1:11
Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but [imitate] what is good. The one who practices good [exhibiting godly character, moral courage and personal integrity] is of God; the one who practices [or permits or tolerates] evil has not seen God [he has no personal experience with Him and does not know Him at all

One major thing that characterizes life is the art of copying or imitation.
Everyone of us will one way or the other imitate or copy someone or something in life. This calls for careful scrutiny.

You see, as a Christian you have a duty to imitate that which is good. Irrespective of what people will say, you must stand your ground to copy something or someone who is godly, and with a virtuous life.

You must never succumb to the negative exposures you will see in life. Imitating what is good means that you are copying something of a godly character, something that shows uprightness and is consistent with the word of God.

This divine demand on you as a Christian means that, you just can’t follow anything. You must use God’s word as a guide and the voice of the Holy Spirit in you to know what to copy and what not to copy.

Break up from friendships and associations that does not allow you to copy or imitate what is good.

Read: 1 Corinthians 11:1 “Imitate me, just as I imitate Christ”.

Prayer: Lord, I pray that in the midst of evil I will receive grace to copy that which is good. Amen

Only one thing is necessary

Luke 10:41-42
“But the Lord replied to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered and anxious about so many things; but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part [that which is to her advantage], which will not be taken away from her.”

Being busy, worried and anxious can make you lose sight of the most important things that demands your attention at certain crucial moments of your life. It is therefore necessary for you to keep assessing the things you have been doing every now and then to ascertain whether that is the most important thing at that particular moment of your life.

Knowing the important thing to do and doing it was the separating line between Mary and Martha in the above scripture.

You see, you have to come to the point where you can distinguish between routine activities that are less significant in contributing to your success and one-off activity that can significantly affect your destiny.
Mixing or putting every activity into the same level of importance will never make you succeed since you will lose sight of the most pressing and significant ones.

When Jesus visited the family of Mary and Martha, the principle of prioritizing things in life was revealed. Though Martha was concerned about preparing a good meal for Jesus as courtesy demands, Jesus never applauded her decision. To Him (Jesus), Martha has misplaced priority by given heed to an unimportant agenda. Jesus placed premium on the attention that Mary gave by listening to him than doing any other thing.

To Jesus, his presence, and the word he was teaching must be put first.
You see, know what is important and urgent, know what is routine but can wait, know the value and impact that every activity you engage have on your destiny, and you will press the “right keys” for your success in life.

Read: 1 Chronicles 12:32 “And of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do; the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their commandment”

Prayer: Lord, I pray for grace to not to lose site of that one thing that is necessary. Amen

Joy from the Lord.

Psalm 4:7
Thou hast put gladness in my heart , more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased”.

One of the greatest virtues you can express as a believer is joy. But joy, is independent of circumstances or happenings in ones life, it comes from God.

As a Christian, your joy should be dependent on the goodness of God. You must not depend on material gains or benefits to have joy in life.

You see, having joy, or gladness in the heart is God given. It is a great deception to think of joy or gladness as coming from the material gains or material things you have in life.

Many who have limited the source of their joy to external things don’t truly enjoy the peace and the sound mind that the joy of the Lord brings.

Let God be the source of your joy. Remember that, heaven and earth shall pass away, but God will not. What is more fulfilling than”being with God” the one who has no beginning and end.

The Psalmist said, “Be glad in the Lord , and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart” (Psalm 32:11).
Let God excite you, let the things of God excite you.
That’s the way, to keep increasing in this joy.

Don’t join the “company of the unbelieving believers” who only holler and put on a smile in Church or life when they have material wealth. That’s not real joy. In fact, joy is independent of all these “I have this” and “I have that” claims. Real joy comes from knowing God as your father.

Be joyful in the Lord!

Read: Psalm 35:9 “And my soul shall be joyful in the Lord : it shall rejoice in his salvation”

Prayer: Lord, I pray that from today my joy will be endless because it is dependent of your goodness in my life. Amen

Reach forward to what lies ahead

Philippians 3:13
“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider that I have made it my own yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead”.

As a Christian you must be on a divine pursuit. You must be on the move to doing the things that lies ahead in your calling, and walk with God.

As a Christians, your walk with God must be progressive. You must move forward always. You must forget what lies behind, and keep pressing on.

This “going all out” for God demands that you become sold out.
There are higher things you must pursue as a Christian, but you have to be focused and forceful in your approach.

Like the Apostle Paul, don’t treat your call as a Christian and your call to do the work of God lightly. Press on daily in this noble mandate.
Despite the Apostle Paul’s earlier achievements, he was never complacent.

Be admonished and move forward in your calling.

Read: Philippians 3:12 “Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus”

Prayer: Lord, I pray for grace to forget the things which are behind and reach forth the things which are before me. Amen
