Don’t live like an unbeliever

Ephesians 4:17-19
“So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed”.

The Christian life must be lived at any time in line with God’s word.
After being saved, you must school yourself with the word and the things of God. This will make the new life which is first and foremost spiritual, manifest physically in your character.

You see, Christians who don’t educate themselves spiritually, that is by God’s word never get their mind or “thinking” renewed. Thus, although born again, they manifest character traits or attitudes that betray who they are in Christ.

In Apostle Paul’s epistle to the Church in Ephesus, Christians were admonished not to live any longer as the Gentiles or unbelievers do. This suggests that, if you don’t put in an effort to let God’s word dominate your mind after saturating your heart, your life in the natural will be nothing better.

It takes God’s word to put under check any carnal life that is full of greed (Ephesians 4:19).
Beloved, becoming the better you as a believer is not automatic. It is dependent on God’s word, and how you allow yourself to be influenced by the Spirit through the word.

Read: Romans 12:2
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Prayer: Father, thank you for bringing me into a loving relationship with you. I pray for the grace to conform to the standards of your word and to denounce any worldly lifestyle. Amen

Enjoying long life; your part to play.

1 Peter 3:10 “For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile”

It’s is undeniable that one of the blessing we have as born again Christians is life. Under the new covenant, God has promised to fulfil the number of our days and to satisfy us with long life. This promise notwithstanding, God expects us, His children to do our part of the deal to make it vital in our lives.

Peter in his epistle by our opening text says “For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil…”
Thus for you to see life, as in have long life and see good days, you must control your tongue.

You must never allow evil to proceed from your mouth. Yes, you must learn not to speak about people. You see, a careful look at the preceding verses, that is 1Peter 3:1-9 explains how we ought to deal with one another. The verse 10 just explains or reveals the importance or the results of what you stand to benefit by doing so.

So, to say that you are praying for long life or confessing long life and still gossip about people, malign people and speak evil about people destroys the former.

You see, the fact that you want to see good days doesn’t mean it will come right to you. You got to control your mouth so that you don’t talk yourself to untimely death.

Proverbs 6:2 says “Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth”. Don’t allow talking unnecessarily to jeopardise your future.
Guard your mouth. Say good things about people. If you have nothing to say, keep quiet. Don’t die foolishly because you were careless with your mouth.

Read: “Proverbs 18:21
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof”

Prayer: Father, thank you for the blessings of long life. I pray for the grace to make confession consistent with this awesome grace. I refuse to be held captive by sickness, and any death threats. I am a winner in Christ.

Dwell together in unity

Dwell together in unity
Psalm 133:1-2 “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments”

Dwelling together with people in unity is a good and a pleasant thing. As Christians God does not expect us to bring divisions or create situations that don’t promote unity wherever we find ourselves. Not living together peacefully and with a sincere heart with people around you in Church, home or wherever you find yourself as a Christian is nothing but a display of carnality.

1 Corinthians 3:3 says “You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere humans” (NIV)

You see, living together with people in unity means that you must walk in love. You can’t live in harmony with people when you don’t walk in love. Allowing petty things and insignificant matters to destroy the bond of peace that must exist between you and people especially those in the body of Christ is just equal to yielding yourself for demons to use you. In fact, when all is said and done, you will bring confusion, quarrels that can’t be settled and destroy lasting relationships or even an entire ministry.

The bible says, dwelling together with the brethren – people in God’s house is a good and pleasant thing. So when you make yourself difficult in these matters, you don’t want anything good and pleasant. Throw off everything that hinders you from being at peace with people. Let go of offense, let go of quarrels, let go of pride and let go of contention.

Ephesians 4:2-3 says that “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace”. As a Christian you have a duty to discharge to everyone in the body of Christ. You must not allow the devil and demons to influence you to bring havoc and chaos into your church and family.

Read: Matthew 5:9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God”.

Prayer: Father, I pray for the grace to live in unity with people wherever I find myself. In Jesus name, Amen!

Counsel establishes plans

Proverbs 15:22 “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed”.

It is one thing to have a plan or purpose, and it is also another thing to make that plan or purpose work. Plans or purposes don’t work out by themselves. It is the carrier of the plan or purpose who must find ways and means to execute them.

In making a plan work, the bible teaches that you need to get counsel. You must understand that knowing what to do does not mean you will know how to do it and even when to do it. It will take a counsel to enlighten you on the “how to” and the “when to”. Without a counsel these great elements will cause your plans and purposes to be stagnant.

Knowing also that counsel establishes plans does not mean you have the counsel. You must submit yourself to someone with the counsel before you can have it. Proverbs 20:5 says “Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out”. You need understanding to get counsel. When you want counsel, you must learn and be ready to ask the right questions, you must be ready to sacrifice your time and energy to follow the person with the counsel you need. These are all matters of understanding or being open minded.

There are many people living in confusion because they lack counsel. Others too are on the road to failure for the same deficiency. Do you have the right counsel for ministry? do you have the right counsel for life? do you have the right counsel for relationship and marriage? and do you have the right counsel for finances? Don’t think and leave like you are going to succeed without counsel. The bible says counsel brings success, safety and security (Proverbs 11:14)

When it comes to counsel, you must seek for it. You must be sincere and humble enough to seek for counsel. You can receive counsel from God, your pastor, your parents and also matured Christians in the faith. Don’t let your plans fail for lack of counsel.

Get help now! Seek counsel!

Read: Proverbs 20:5 “Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out”.

Prayer: Father, I pray that my life will be a life full of godly counsel for my establishment in Jesus name. Amen!

Be quick to understand

Daniel 1:4 “young men without any physical defect, handsome, showing aptitude for every kind of learning, well informed, quick to understand, and qualified to serve in the king’s palace. He was to teach them the language and literature of the Babylonians”

How quick or fast you understand things determine how fast and well you do things in life. Being of quick understanding or being quick to understand means that you are quick in discerning things, or quick to figure out something and to also grasp something.

You see, when you are quick to understand things, it distinguishes you from the masses. It brings you quickly before great people. We see this in our opening text that after king Nebuchadnezzar had captured Jerusalem, he ordered for only young men who are of quick understanding to be brought into the service of his palace.

In life people who are quick to understand easily emerge to the top. It takes great discipline, humility and constant study to be a person of understanding.

People who are slow to understand are very different in their approach to life. They don’t do things as and when expected. Their movement and the sense of urgency to life is very shallow. These are persons you must keep correcting on one error over and over with no positive outcome. You see, if you are quick to understand it manifests in your actions. Because someone who is quick to understand will always look at his or her actions independently. Such people don’t play the blame game. They personally hold themselves responsible and accountable for how they do things, and respond to situations in life.

When you are slow to understanding things, you will never help yourself neither will you also be able to help people around you. 1 Corinthians 14:20 says “Brethren, do not be children in your thinking; yet in evil be infants, but in your thinking be mature”

Read: Isaiah 11:3 “And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears”.

Prayer: Lord, I pray that when it comes to understanding I will be quick and swift. In Jesus name, Amen!

Catch the anointing

Hebrews 1:9 “You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy”

It is important to desire the anointing or to desire to be anointed. Having the anointing is one way to do exploits in the ministry and in life. In fact, without the anointing there are many things you can’t accomplish. In Acts 10:38 we see the significance of the anointing in the life and ministry of Jesus. “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him”.

Catching an anointing does not come only by desire. There is more to that. You have to play an active role in your quest to be anointed. Any believer that wants to be anointed and to stay anointed must learn to continually yield him/herself to the Lord first. The anointing you want has a source. It is from God. Without that, you can never be anointed in your life.

Despite the truth that, the anointing ultimately comes from God, he may allow the anointing to come to you in different ways- by a direct impartation from the Holy Spirit and by transference through an anointed person.

Giving all these truths on the anointing, you cannot catch this precious gift from God with sin and evil lurking in your heart. That is suicidal. Isn’t it?  When a man with wrong intentions and heart carry power, what will be the outcome?

That’s why God expects people who desire the anointing to live sanctified lives. The Bible teaches clearly how by loving righteousness and hating wickedness Jesus caught the anointing. Thus your separation from worldliness, carnality and any form of evil doing is the basic requirement for you catching the anointing. You can’t live in unforgiveness, immorality, pride, arrogance, disobedience, ungratefulness, etc. and expect to be greatly anointed of the Lord.

It is undeniable that God wants an army of Christians that will speak his word to this generation and anoint us for that but we must pay the price of separating ourselves from any fleshly agenda and be devoted to God.

Read: Psalm 89:20 “I have found David my servant; with my sacred oil I have anointed him”.

Prayer: Father, I pray that as I walk in the righteousness you have given me, the anointing will also rest effectively upon my life. In Jesus name, Amen!

Talked to Death or Life

Matthew 12:37“For by thy WORDS thou shalt be justified, and by thy WORDS thou shalt be condemned”

Words are more important than a lot of people realize. Words make us or break us. Words heal us or make us sick. According to the Bible, WORDS destroy us or make us full of life, happiness, and health. Our Words—the Words we spoke yesterday—made life what it is today.

That agrees with what Jesus said in Mark 11:23, “For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall SAY unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he SAITH shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he SAITH.”

You see, for most people in life today, the troubles and challenges they have is self-inflicted. They got there by speaking wrongly, talking wrongly or communicating wrongly. In fact, some spoke their way into sickness, failure, sin, fear, defeat and shame.

For instance if you have ever visited some sick folks, and you ever listened to them talk you will know or can find out why they are sick. It was something that has to do with their mouth. Proverbs 18:21 says “Life and death are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit”

On the contrary you can also speak life or blessing into your life. Proverbs 12:18 is a wonderful revelation, and a marvelous truth: “There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.” So you see, your good health or otherwise is in your mouth. You are not going to have health unless you talk health.

There is much to do when it comes to talking. Whether you fuss about it or not, your life today is because of your talks some time ago. School yourself in the word. Let it dominate your mind so that you can finally let it out as “words of life and words of hope”

Remember it is better to be silent than to speak troubles into your life.

Read: Proverbs 21:23 “Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles”.

Prayer: Lord, I pray that as I open my mouth to speak, I will speak life and not death. In Jesus name, Amen!

No corrupt communication

Ephesians 4:29 “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers”

Communication or talking must have a purpose. Aside conveying a thought or an idea to a person, what you say must be good, must edify, and must minister grace. When your “talks” satisfies these requirements then you are obeying the Lord on this subject.

One important truth you must know as a Christian is that God does not want us to talk anyhow and anywhere. When it comes to talking or communication, there is a divine standard. Missing out on this is nothing but disobedience to God’s word. The message translation puts Ephesians 4:29 more clearer: “Watch the way you talk. Let nothing foul or dirty come out of your mouth. Say only what helps, each word a gift”.

When you talk or communicate you must say good things- things consistent with the word of God, things consistent with the principles in God’s word, things consistent with the new life you have in Christ, and things that are true. Don’t miss out on this great principle when it comes to talking.

When you talk or communicate you must edify people. That is to say that, your Words must instruct or improve (someone) morally or intellectually. Furthermore, your communication must educate, teach, coach, guide, enlighten, indoctrinate, better, uplift or elevate someone. You see, no wonder talking well demands that you must have the tongue of the learned from God (Isaiah 50:4).

The bible again teaches that when you talk, you must minister grace to your hearers. In other Words, your Words must bring an impartation. Grace is favour. Thus when communicating it must be with favour and blessings.

If believers will master how to talk, it will not only do us well but we will be able to touch our world with the power of God.

Never give room to corrupt communication! Any communication that does not satisfy the divine order when it comes to communication is corrupt communication. How can you minister grace with insulting Words, how can you talk good with shouting on top of your voice against people, how can you edify people with derogatory arguments over matters under discussion.

When you talk don’t give room for evil to prevail. Don’t talk to bring quarrel, don’t talk with nagging or fault-finding, and don’t talk with fights.

Read: Colossians 4:6 “Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man”.

Prayer: Lord, I declare that my mouth is only reserved for wholesome words to proceed out in Jesus name. Amen!

The tongue of the learned

Isaiah 50:4 “The Lord God hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know howto speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning bymorning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned”

One author once wrote “Talk is cheap, but it can cost you plenty.” This is one fact everyone “talking” must constantly bear in mind. The consequences or the after happenings after talking or “using Words” must be one guiding principle for you when it comes to this subject.

The prophet Isaiah said “God has given him the tongue of the learned so that he should know how to speak…” Meaning that, to say something worthwhile, sensible, or advisable, when talking is dependent on having a learned tongue. And the learned tongue comes from the Lord by submitting your life to his Lordship and teachings of His word. No one can talk well without the wisdom that comes from the Spirit of the Lord and His grace.

Having the tongue of the learned also means that, you know how to speak a word in season. In other Words, you know the Words to use and the ones to avoid when talking to people. Not only that, you know when to talk about or on some issues with people and when to avoid it all together. Proverbs 25:11 says “A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver”. Proverbs 15:23 also says “a word spoken in due season, how good is it!

You see, from the above explanations, it means that, there is much wisdom needed in talking. For you to articulate words and express yourself rightly is something you must depend on the Lord for and also make it a priority in your life. As Christians, it is therefore important for us to be careful how we communicate what we want to say and to also be careful when we communicate what we have to say. Take it or leave it. Talking anyhow will cost you. Talk with the tongue of the learned.

Read: Colossians 4:6“Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know howye ought to answer every man”.

Prayer: Lord, I pray that my tongue is seasoned with knowledge from on high. I declare that as I speak comforting and miraculous words will proceed from my mouth. In Jesus name, Amen!

Divine health, your covenant blessing

Exodus 23:25 “And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee”.

One important covenant blessing believers have access to is divine healing. God wants his children healed and living in divine health. That’s His earnest desire for you.

That’s why He said in 3 John 1:2 that “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth”. Your prosperity, good health and peace of mind are his greatest desire for you.The misconception that, sickness and disease are a punishment from God for sins has caused many people to accept that they don’t deserve divine healing. But you see, this is the falsehood preached by the devil himself.

Living in health is God’s plan for all his children. Exodus 23:25 says “And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee”. Divine Health as you can see is activated by serving the Lord. That is by entering into a covenant relationship with God. Bible records that, when the people of God moved out of Egypt and journeyed via the wilderness, there was none sick among them for all the forty years. God was among them and did quicken their frail bodies. Those who fell and died among them broke their covenant relationship with God. They grumbled and murmured against him. Nonetheless, some did enjoy divine health. They were shielded from the evil forces of sickness.

Never for one moment think that God wants you sick. Infact sickness and disease are not from God, neither does he inflict it on his children. Matthew 8:17 says“He took our infirmities and carried away our sickness”. Meaning that, as a child of God you have no business becoming and remaining sick. Sickness and diseases is a done deal when you are in Christ, this is because Jesus took it upon himself.

Divine health is your covenant blessing. Confess it every day. Declare “I live in divine health, and I cannot be sick”.

Read: 1 Peter 2:24: “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed”.

Prayer: Father, I pray that I will swim in divine health all the days of my life. In Jesus name, Amen!
