FAITH, A KEY FACTOR IN WALKING WITH GOD

Hebrews 11: 6 “But without faith it is impossible to [walk with God and] please Him, for whoever comes [near] to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that
He rewards those who [earnestly and diligently] seek Him”

Every born again Christian has been brought into arelationship or fellowship with God (1 John 1:7). But for us to continually abide with him, we need to live by faith or believe Him. We need to believe him for who He is, what He is able to do and what He is willing to do. No one can walk with God and see tremendous results or see great happenings without exercising his or her faith.

I have often said that, you can’t walk with God and send your faith on vacation. Your faith in God must be ever present. It must be undulating irrespective of what the situations or circumstances of life may be.

Any time you walk with God at the “believing level” or by faith, doubts and fears fade out. When you believe God, in your walk with him, you are able to lay hold of all His promises and make them materialize in your life.

The Bible teaches how Abraham became a stalwart in life through the demonstration of his faith when the Lord called him. He laid hold on the promises of God against all odds till he saw each promise manifested in his life.Romans 4:20 says “He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God”

You see, anything God promises you gets delivered to you when you believe that He (God) is able. Just like Abram moved from the background of insignificance to significance by believing, the same will be your story as you journey with God when you also believe.

You see, Abram’s belief in the word released him into prosperity, great divine encounters, blessings of the fruit of the womb, and divine protection (Genesis 13:2, 17:1, 21:2). In fact, Abram’s faith in God, moved God to fight for his course without his knowledge.

This means that your walk with the Lord must be by faith. You must be FULLY persuaded in your heart about what God has said about you. When God’s word declares that you are rich, prosperous, healed and delivered, you must believe it. This is what brings the manifestation.

Thus, when God’s word says you are healed, let that be your confession and don’t look at the symptoms of a sickness to determine whether you are healed or not. In fact, your healing is independent of what you may be experiencing in your body at that material moment. Similarly, when God’s word says you are prosperous, don’t look at the current financial challenges, look at His word, and as you remain diligent in your work, you will see great wonders in the area of your finances.

Always look at the Lord, because faithful is He. Your belief in God will bring you to the shores of rest.

Prayer: Father, I pray that by the faith I have received from your word, I will live my christian life to please you. In Jesus mighty name, Amen!

WHEN IT COMES TO LOVE; NO RETREAT

Song of Solomon 8:7 “Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it…”

One of the most tested virtues in the life of the Christian is love. Every day of your life as Christian is a test of love. Some fail and others pass. But God always wants you and I to pass the love test. Love or walking in love is first and foremost about God and secondly, people.

Walking in love towards God means that, you must obey His word no matter what (John 14:15). This will sometimes be against logic and your feelings. But all the same, what is feelings and logic when God is to be obeyed.

Secondly, we have the obligation to walk in love towards people. This most often than not is where many Christians fail. You see, failing in this second dimension of your love mandate will by default lead to the first test of walking in love towards God. This is so because it is God who commanded that walk in love towards all men (John 13:34).

You see, it is impossible to say that when you are walking in love towards people there wouldn’t be challenges. But that’s the power love has. It can endure. That’s why Songs of Solomon 8:7 says “many waters or floods can’t quench love”. Love has the capacity and tenacity to last long in harsh conditions. Your love must not easily go cold nor quench.

The Apostle Paul in explaining this truth says, “Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance” (1 Corinthians 13:7). You see, your love for God and for people must not be based on circumstances. Irrespective of what happens to you in life, your love must not be affected.

As our opening text describes, nothing must quench your love. Don’t be too quick to cast people off when they offend you. For your love to endure long, it must not be determined by the way people treat you. That is to say, you must not show love to only those who have the capacity and ability to reciprocate it. When it comes to love, let Christ be your example.

Love God! Love People! No retreat!

Read: John 13:34 “A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another”.

Prayer: Father, I pray that loving people in general will be a part of my life. I pray and come against any spirit of discrimination. In Jesus name, Amen!

WHO ARE YOU DESPISING IN YOUR HEART?

2 Samuel 6:16 “And as the ark of the LORD came into the city of David, Michal Saul’s daughter looked through a window, and saw king Davidleaping and dancing before the LORD; andshe despised him in her heart”.

There are some things you can do to men or people and they will not see, but God will see it. For instance you can hate people without their knowledge, you can insult people without their knowledge and you can also despise people without their knowledge. But never forget that, God sees the heart. He knows and sees beyond what men can know and see.

From our opening text, we saw how Michal who was the wife of David, despised David in her heart because of his zeal and joy in the Lord. Although this was not known to David, God saw it.

When we talk about despising something or someone it means to dislike and have a low opinion of someone or something because you think it’s worthless. So looking at it from our opening scripture, Michal’s action meant that David’s joy and zeal for God was worthless or needless.

In fact, she regarded the worship to God as a worthless act and a waste of time. Most often than not, people are tempted and some actually do look down on some people in their reverence to the Lord. Don’t be in Church and despise people who are zealously praying, worshipping or serving the Lord. Although there are many people who despise the church of God and regard believers as a group of fanatics and brain washedpersons. Never join this train. Since these “despisers” don’t only show contempt towards spiritual things but their actions is also against God himself.

Irrespective of who you despise in Church or in life, when their zeal and affection is towards God or because of God, you will attract a curse of unfruitfulness into your life. BEWARE! “Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death”. (2 Samuel6:23)

Read: 1 Thessalonians 5:22 “Abstain from all appearance of evil”.

Prayer: Lord, I pray that you will help me and enable me never in my lifetime to despise someone in my heart. In Jesus name, Amen!

DON’T FAIL WHEN TROUBLE COMES

Isaiah 37:3 “They told him, This is what King Hezekiah says:Today is a day of trouble, insults, and disgrace. It is like when a child is ready to be born,
but the mother has no strength to deliver the baby”

Troubles are not customized products for some selected people since they can come to anyone. Whether big or small, rich or poor, anointed or not, troubles knock at every door. Some can be severe and others can be mild. Nonetheless, the troubles in the world can’t be ruled out.

As a Christian, there are many situations or issues that may come your way. Some may be good whiles others may not. For instance there are times when you can have more than enough and there are times too when things may be scarce. But beyond all these, God wants you to stand and overcome whatever trouble that may come your way.

The Bible actually reveals the causer of all trouble s,the devil. He is our chief adversary or opponent in life. 1Peter 5:8 says “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour”. Meaning that, day in and day out the devil is on the run delivering troubles as packages. But God want you to resist him and to overcome him.

A practical example of a day of trouble is what we witness about the righteous man, Job. In a single day, he lost his business, his family and his estate. As though these were not enough, his health also failed. But in all these, the Bible says Job still stood strong and never turn against the Lord. In fact, against the advise of the wife for him to curse God, Job rather looked up to God in all these troubles. (Job 2:9)

You see, the Bible teaches us to stand and not fail in the day of trouble. Proverbs 24:10 says “If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small”.

No matter the trouble that will come to you, whether in your finances, marriage, relationship, work, ministry, or health, remain firm and believe that God is able to see you through it.

In the day of trouble pray, search God’s word and make it your confession. Never despair but encourage yourself daily and be strong because you have the victory that overcomes the world.

Read: Proverbs 24:10 “If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.”

Prayer: Father, I pray that in times and moments of trouble I will never loose strength to fight on. In Jesus name, Amen!

CHURCH RELATIONS

1 Timothy 5:1 “Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren; The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity”

Church, just like any human set up or gathering has its own unique social interaction rules. These rules are consistent with the teachings of the faith we profess. It also points out to the values or virtues that the Christian body, in terms of the local church must uphold.

In our opening text, the Apostle Paul in his epistle to Timothy reveals some relations that may exist in a Church. Older women must be seen as mothers, older men must be seen as fathers, younger men must be seen as brothers and younger women must be seen as sisters to be handled with purity. Thus, who you are in terms of your age and gender must inform how you deal with people in the local Church.

For instance a young man, must be humble enough to relate with older men as fathers, older women as mothers, younger men just like him as brothers and younger women as sister he must deal with in purity. These arrangement brings order and decency into the Church. Not only that, it takes away unnecessary challenges that can befall the church when human relations are not handled well.

This means that, Christians must not just behave any how in Church. Whether older or younger you have a responsibility towards those ahead of you or those below you. These responsibilities must be discharged with utmost love, respect, humility, and above all reverence to God and his word.

The bible in Titus teaches that older men must to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance (Titus 2:2) and older women must be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to wine, but to teach what is good (Titus 2:3). It also teaches that younger women must be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God and younger men to be self-controlled.

Meaning that, in a Church these obligations must guide our relationship with others. Never deal with people wrongly in Church since it can bring a curse on your life.

Read: Galatians 6:10 “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.”

Prayer: Lord, I pray that my relationship with people in the church will be based on the revelation from this truth I receive today. In Jesus name, Amen!

DON’T MEDDLE IN PEOPLE’S AFFAIRS

1 Timothy 5:13 “And besides they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house, and not only idle but also gossips and busybodies, saying things
which they ought not”

Success in life is not an accident. Whether you will succeed or fail, more rest with you. Our opening scripture gives an important key to succeeding in life or any endeavour you are undertaking and that is “don’t meddle in people’s affairs”. In other words stay focused.

You see, most people have developed an “anti-success” lifestyle or attitudes knowingly and unknowingly. The sad part is that, some are Christians. Making yourself a busybody talking about people’s issues without an invitation or any intention to help what they may be doing is a fruitless venture. In fact, you will gain nothing from it at all.

In dealing with people, know when you are needed and when you are not needed. Talking just about everything that concerns people is not a trait of a good Christian. You must not meddle in people’s affair that way.

The bible from our opening text teaches that we must not be idle, or wander from house to house without any purposeful or fruitful agenda. Not only that, we must also not become gossips. These are activities that takes time. Thus, if the same time that can be used for something fruitful is channeled into this, it means that, anyone involved in this venture is gradually wasting away.

In Apostle Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians, he described it as an undisciplined life.

2 Thessalonians 3:11 says “Yet we hear that some of you are leading undisciplined lives and accomplishing nothing but being busybodies (Berean Study Bible)

You see, why make yourself a busybody talking about other people’s issues when you can do something profitable with your life. Never bring yourself that low! As a Christian you must stay above this unprofitable life of gossip or meddling in people’s matters. Don’t also allow people to recruit you into this “fruitless busybody business” .

As people that have benefited from the wisdom of God (1 Corinthians 1:30), use your time profitably and make the most of every opportunity. Never hesitate to humbly walk people out of your home if their purpose of coming is to gossip.

Read: Matthew 12:36 “But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment”.

Prayer: Father, I pray that you will enable me to focus on my own business and not to be a busy body in other people’s issues. In Jesus name, Amen!

DON’T NEGLECT YOUR GIFT

“Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on you”

No born again Christian is without a gift. Every one of us is gifted by God in one way or the other. At salvation, the giver of the gifts, the Holy Spirit indwells in the believer. This means that, any gift that you can think of is in the Holy Spirit that is in you (1 Corinthians 12:4).

The gift of God in you is a special ability that the Lord imparts unto you for the furtherance of his work here on earth. The Living Bible renders these gifts as special abilities. 1 Corinthians 12:4 “Now God gives us many kinds of special abilities, but it is the same Holy Spirit who is the source of them all”

The bible makes mention of different kinds of gift that people receive from the Lord. These are word of wisdom, word of knowledge, faith, gifts of healings, working of miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, different kinds of tongues, interpretation of tongues, ministry, teaching, exhortation, giving, leadership, and showing mercy.

No matter your level in the Christian faith, God graces you with a gift and it is free. Nonetheless, God expects you to put it to work to profit the entire body of Christ and the world at large.

Never lose sight of this great truth that God by his Holy Spirit imparted a gift unto you as a Christian. No matter what your gift is, be appreciative of it and use it to God’s glory. If you can teach God’s word with great grace and simplicity, do not feel shy or hesitate to pick up a duty in Church that will make you exercise your gift. If you have the grace to give, don’t hold back. Do it joyfully. Instead of being an observer in Church or in this hurting world, use the gift that you have received from the Lord to bless others.

Don’t forget that, God will hold each one of us accountable for any gift we misuse and neglect.

Read: Mathew 10:8 “Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give”

Prayer: Lord, I pray that the gifting you have bestowed on me will not be neglected by me. I declare that no matter the happenstance I will still hold on to the gift you have given me. In Jesus name, Amen!

TRUTHS OF THE FAITH

1 Timothy 4:6 “If you point these things out to the brothers and sisters, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished on the truths of the
faith and of the good teaching that you have followed”

Truth is an important element in Christian faith. It can be described as a statement or a practice that is consistent with the word of God. John in his gospel revealed that God’s word is “truth”. “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth” (John 17:17). Truth also points to the person of Jesus as He is not different from the word He declares (John 14:6).

The Christian faith anchors on truth. Thus, it is what God’s word has said or says about the faith that one must uphold to. For instance some truths of the faith are salvation through Jesus Christ, fellowshipping with God by the Spirit, and the virtues of walking in love, patience, holiness, gentleness, humility, gratitude, etc.

These truths are the things we must believe to thrive as Christians. Anything contrary to the truth won’t stand the test of time, no matter how popular it is. In 1 Timothy 4:1, the Bible warns us about false teachings and how it can cause people to depart from the Christian faith.

You see, subscribing to just anything without verifying whether it is the truth or it is the word of God will be detrimental to your own life. In this end times, your greatest safety is in the truth you know and not what people are saying in town. Jesus said, your freedom is predicated on the truth you know (John 8:32). So until you give yourself to the truth, you will be under bondage- that can be the bondage of fear, sickness, sin, etc.

Make every effort to be nourished on the truths of the faith. Don’t just tag along with practices and activities done in Church. Study God’s word on them. This is how to get the truth into your heart. It will make you stand your grounds in this uncertain times where the devil is promoting many false teachings and practices. Remain firm in your faith. Refuse to be carried away by smooth talks that don’t have any iota of truth.

Remember that, in this last days, one of the things that can save you from destruction and from going out of the Christian faith is TRUTH- the word of God. Be bold to cast off anything that is not the truth. Never be hardened hearted and glued to your old ways when the TRUTH, or God’s word comes to you.

Read: Isaiah 59:14 “And judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter”.

Prayer: Father, I pray that I will communicate the truth from your word to everyone. I declare that I will not minimize the truth or mince my words when it comes to speaking the truth. In Jesus name, Amen!

His grace is sufficient for you

2 Corinthians 9:8 “And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things , may abound to every good work”

God never leaves any of his children frustrated and busted in life. You are never alone when you are confronted with the challenges of this world.
Jesus said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you”.
This is what grace is all about. It is God with you in your race.

The Apostle Paul during one of his tough times prayed to the Lord to intervene, but God’s answer to him was awesome. See the response in 2 Corinthians 12:9 “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

You see, this grace is not only limited to the Apostle or some special people in the Christendom. The grace is for all.

No matter what the situation may be right now, GRACE IS AVAILABLE. God is able to make all grace abound unto you.
See 2 Corinthians 9:8 “And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things , may abound to every good work”

You have sufficient grace to have “all sufficiency”. Never look at the storms of life and conclude that there is no place for you. The grace of God that makes a nobody somebody is available for you. Paul after attaining some great heights in life said “But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me”.

You have the grace that “makes” a person outstanding in life. Looking beyond the cross, we are not only saved by grace, but we are also made to prosper by this same grace.
See 2 Corinthians 8:9 “For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich”.

God’s grace is all round for the believer. It does not only rescue from the “grave”, it also makes your life beautiful. Yours is to acknowledge the grace of God and it will turn things to your favour.

Ephesians 4:7
But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.

Prayer: Father, I pray that your grace will always abound unto me to make life life beautiful in Jesus name.

Don’t switch from the Spirit into the flesh

Galatians 3:3
“Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?”

Galatians 3:3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?
The above scripture seeks to draw the attention of believers who have ignored the spiritual walk with God to embrace fleshly desires.

The Apostle Paul in addressing the backslidden church in Galatia asked a direct question which seeks to awaken their dead conscience and their spiritual life.
The Bible makes us understand that, although these believers began very well, they later ignored the spiritual things of God and subscribed to acts and doctrines that will boost their flesh.

Today, we are faced with the same challenge or temptation. Will you esteem casual activities over prayers, bible study and fasting? In fact, will you allow fleshly desires or doctrines to kill your spiritual life?
Don’t allow yourself to be “bewitched”.

You see, it is not wisdom to neglect a personal experience and relationship with God for earthly pursuits or things that do not edify.

You see, if there should be any mode of switch in your life as a Christian, it should be from the flesh to the Spirit not the vice versa.
Keep glowing in the spirit and never resort to evil and carnal schemes.

Read: Romans 12:11 “never lagging behind in diligence; aglow in the Spirit, enthusiastically serving the Lord” .

Study: Galatians 3:1-4
O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain.

Prayer: Father, I pray that I will continue and be fervent in spirit all the days of my life In Jesus name. Amen!
