Pure in heart

Matthew 5:8 "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God"

Your heart matters in your walk with God. In fact, the state of your heart is a big issue to the Lord.

As Christians, God wants us to have a pure heart. That’s a heart devoid of any evil intentions or perceptions.

Titus 1:15 according to the Amplified Bible says “To the pure, all things are pure; but to the corrupt and unbelieving, nothing is pure; both their mind and their conscience are corrupted

Folks, with pure heart are blessed. They receive approval and favor of God. The bible said in 1 Samuel 16:7 “But the Lord said unto Samuel, look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.”

You see, since God is looking at the heart then it matters the kind of things you should entertain in your hearts. In Ephesians 4:31-32, Paul the Apostle says “Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” From the above text we see some of the things that shouldn’t be found in our hearts because they have the tendencies to make our hearts impure.

The heart can get polluted anytime, any day and anywhere. Therefore, guard your heart with everything within you. Proverbs 4:23 “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

Read: Ps 51:10-12 “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.”

Prayer: Lord remove anything in my heart that makes it impure. Help me to uphold and keep a pure heart all the days of my life. Amen!

CHOICES

Genesis 3:6 “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat”

Life is full of choices. Each and everyday you have to make a choice to keep going. The choices we make may cut across all spheres of life. Some can be spiritual, social, financial, and moral.

Every choice you make also has its consequences. It can bring a good result or a bad one. This makes choices very delicate. Thus, making a wrong choice can jeopardize your life for good.

The Bible in our opening text shows the choice of Eve in the garden of Eden. Despite the Lord’s specific instruction on what they were to do in the garden, Eve made a choice contrary to what the Lord expected.

Genesis 3:6 says “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat”

In fact, her choice was guided by what she saw in the flesh and what she desired nothing more nothing less. Not long after that, the consequences followed. The haven was lost all because of the choice made.

You see, inasmuch as life is full of choices, don’t just make choices without assessing the impart it will have on your life and destiny.

Consider things carefully, especially the word of God and some specific instructions the Lord might have given you before you make any choice in life.

Don’t just make choices because of the present pleasure and satisfaction it will give you. Think beyond temporary or transient pleasures and satisfactions when making choices.

You see, most people have put their life in a disadvantaged position all because of a wrong choice – it could be a choice of a marriage partner, ministry affiliation, work, alliances, etc.

Choices are inevitable in life. But make them wisely so that you can secure your glorious future.

Read: Deuteronomy 30:19 “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore, choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live”

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for the opportunity to make choices in life. I pray for grace and wisdom not to make choices that will jeopardise my life and destiny. Amen.

Revelation and walking with God.

Exodus 6:2-4,6 Then God spoke further to Moses and said to him, “I am the LORD. I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob (Israel) as God Almighty [El Shaddai], but by My name, LORD, I did not make Myself known to them [in acts and great miracles]. I also established My covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land in which they lived as strangers (temporary residents, foreigners). Therefore, say to the children of Israel, ‘I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will free you from their bondage. I will redeem and rescue you with an outstretched (vigorous, powerful) arm and with great acts of judgment [against Egypt] (AMP)

Revelation is insight into something that is or was unknown or a secret. Thus, by revelation you get a better understanding of something or someone and you are able to relate well the thing or person.

Revelation plays a major role in our walk with God. This is because what you know about God and how you know him determines how you will deal with him.

In Exodus 6:3 we see a vivid description about how God revealed himself to different sets of people. Here what God said “I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob (Israel) as God Almighty [El Shaddai], but by My name, LORD, I did not make Myself known to them [in acts and great miracles].

This means that, Abraham, Isaac walked in a different revelation about who God is in relation to Moses. To Abraham and Isaac, God is all sufficient. He is provider and satisfies his children.

But when it came to Moses, he knew about God the El- Shaddai and the God who is Jehovah or LORD. Jehovah here means the one who would redeem Israel.

You see, it is imperative what you know about God today. Have searched His word enough to know who God is, what He can do, what He wants, and what He loves. This is how to bring yourself into the place of revelation. With the help of the Holy Spirit you will enlightened to know the Lord better.

No wonder the Apostle Paul desired and said “And this, so that I may know Him [experientially, becoming more thoroughly acquainted with Him, understanding the remarkable wonders of His Person more completely] and [in that same way experience] the power of His resurrection [which overflows and is active in believers], and [that I may share] the fellowship of His sufferings, by being continually conformed [inwardly into His likeness even] to His death [dying as He did]” (Philippians 3:10).

You see, there is more to know about the Lord. That’s what will enhance your walk with him. Have you known the Lord as your healer, provider, protector, and redeemer?

Get revelation about who God is, His plans and purposes for your life and you will shine in life

Read: Colossians 1:26-27 “Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory”.

Prayer: Dear Father, thank you for making it possible for me to know you better. I pray that my eyes of understanding will be enlightened to walk with you in a deeper fellowship. Amen

Blessed beyond curse.

Deuteronomy 23:5 “Nevertheless the Lord thy God would not hearken unto Balaam; but the Lord thy God turned the curse into a blessing unto thee, because the Lord thy God loved thee.”

Curses are real. They are released by words or evil incantations against people. Some are released through mediums and or cursed items.

The Bible teaches that sometimes curses comes because of something a person does.

Proverbs 26:2 says “Like the sparrow in her wandering, like the swallow in her flying, So the curse without cause does not come and alight [on the undeserving].” (AMP).

You can bring a curse on yourself by dealing treacherously with the Lord, and you can bring a curse on yourself by slacking in doing the work God has called you to do. Jeremiah 48:10 says “A curse on anyone who is lax in doing the Lord’s work! A curse on anyone who keeps their sword from bloodshed!”

Again, you can bring a curse on yourself by dishonouring your mother and father. Deuteronomy 27:16 “Cursed is anyone who dishonors their father or mother.” Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”

Putting all together, one can personally subject himself or herself to a curse by going contrary to God’s word.

Despite all these sources of curses, there are curses that people want to pronounce against God’s people. These are the curses we are considering in this study. The Bible teaches that such curses, cannot work against the child of God. Just like how Balak, hired Balaam to curse the children of God but was to no avail. That’s how it is with you as a child of God.

Curses people pronounce against you because of envy, hatred or whatever evil desires they have against you is dead on arrival.

Live with this consciousness that you are above and beyond any curse people will trow at you. Nonetheless, never also bring yourself under any curse by dealing treacherously with the Lord or sacred things.

Read: Numbers 23:23 “For there is no enchantment or omen against Jacob, Nor is there any divination against Israel. At the proper time it shall be said to Jacob And to Israel, what has God done!” (AMP)

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for elevating me to a place in you where people can’t curse me. I pray for revelation to live in subjection to your will and the wisdom not to also bring myself under any curse by disobedience.

What a victory!

You see, it doesn’t matter what challenge or predicament that comes your way. There is HELP in God.

Hebrews 4:16 says “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”

Beloved, there is grace to help. God is your ever-present help.

Read: Psalm 33:20 “Our soul waiteth for the Lord: he is our help and our shield”. Most often than not we turn to forget the readiness and eagerness with which God wants to help His people. According to Heb 4:16 you could see that God is more ready to help than we are to ask help from Him. Putting your trust, hope and confidence in man will only leave you in confined misery and penury. Ps 118:8 “It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.”

Your victory in life is only guarantee by God. You see, the earlier you imbibe into this truth the safer your life will be.

Another thing to note is that calamity and curses awaits the man that puts the trust in another man. Jer 17:5 “Thus saith the Lord; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord.” Beloved, there is always great victory in relying on the help of God. God has not failed before and He won’t fail in your case. Prov 21:31 “The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the Lord.”

Read: Ps 37:25 “I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.”

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for assuring me of your help in all that I go through in life. I pray that, every challenge or adversity that I am confronted with is lifted from me in the name of Jesus. Amen!

2 Chronicles 20:1,5-7,22 “It came to pass after this also, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them other beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle. And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the Lord, before the new court, And said, O Lord God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee? Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever? And when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten

The challenges of life are not limited to some particular people. Challenges comes to everyone irrespective of your creed, colour, status, age or gender.

You see, challenges are not customized to some particular people. The fact that you are not faced with any does not mean it doesn’t exist.

Our opening scripture reveals the emergence of a challenge for King Jehoshaphat. With this new challenge, Jehoshaphat came to a crossroad. His kingdom has been besieged by many armies, knowing that destruction is eminent, he turned to the Lord.

Jehoshaphat’s action of turning to the Lord brought him God’s help.

In his prayer to the Lord, he remembered the Lord of His word, and trusted him to do the impossible as his strength as a King is to no avail in this matter.

Thus he prayed “Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever”.

In the state of helplessness, God’s help come through for him.

The Bible says that “the Lord set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten”

Read: Ps 121:1-2 “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.”

Prayer: Father, I thank you for always making your help accessible to me. I receive help now! I receive help tomorrow! I receive help forever from the throne room! Amen.

SERVE GOD WITH A LOYAL HEART.

1 Samuel 16:6 “When they arrived, Samuel saw Eliab and thought, “Surely the Lord’s anointed stands here before the Lord.” (NIV).

The book of 1st Samuel chapter 16 reveals an important factor that qualifies a person for the service of God and His blessings.

On the account of 1 Samuel 16, we see David, a teenager shepherd boy whose heart of loyalty caught the attention of heaven. There is nothing in this world that is beautiful to God or entertains God than to see a man serve or work with a loyal heart.

Irrespective of what you do in the house of God, a loyal heart matter. A loyal heart is a heart that stands with God at any given circumstance. The bible said this about David in Acts 13:22 “And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.”

You see, it is very possible to work for the Lord without a loyal heart and yet do the work perfectly well. But the issue here is that such works goes unrewarded in the sight of God. Look at what the bible had to say about King Amaziah in 2 Chron 25:2  “And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, but not with a perfect heart.”

Serving God today with a loyal heart doesn’t mean serving God tomorrow with the same loyal heart. Your loyal heart towards God and the things of God can be challenged. The bible said in 1 Kings 11:4 “For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the Lord his God, as was the heart of David his father”.

There is therefore the need to guard one’s loyal heart towards the service of God. Many things can confront your loyal heart, for instance marital issues, health issues, financial issues, educational issues, and the likes all have the proclivity to negatively affect your service towards God.

Serve God today! Serve him with a Loyal Heart!

Read:1 Cor 4:2 “Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.”

Prayer: Lord I thank you for the privilege to serve in your kingdom. I pray that I will forever serve with a loyal heart. I come against anything that will stand in my path to you serving with a loyal heart. Amen!

The key to a successful life

Joshua 1:8 “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”

This scripture is the key to having a successful life. It reveals that, the word of God in a person’s mouth is what brings success. This means that, you must continually talk the word.

You see, to succeed in this life, you must make the practice of meditating on God’s word. Meditation here means muttering or speaking the word of God to yourself. Whether you are talking the word quietly under your breath, or roaring it loud- it is meditation.

Having the word of God in your heart is important but you must confess it daily for the victory you need or want. You must talk God’s word before things will fall in place.

Genesis chapter 1 tells that the world was a chaotic mass without form and empty until God spoke.

Genesis 1:2-4 says

“And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.”

God had to speak before creation came to be.

You see, talking God’s word is of great importance to the believer. Never live a day without talking or confessing God’s word.

Romans 10:10 says “For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved”. Put it differently, a man is not only saved by his believing, but he must also make the right confession.

You must know that God reveals Himself to you through the Word that you take into your heart. However, that revelation alone wouldn’t change the circumstances of your life until you act on it. By the time the Word gets into your mouth, and you speak it forth, it becomes Rhema (Greek) – the active and creative Word.

To live the life of success God has designed for you, you must be a Word- talker. There aren’t enough limitations in the world that can stop you when you talk God’s word.

Read: Jeremiah 23:29 “Is not my word like fire,” declares the Lord, “and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces? (NIV)

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for giving me your word. As I speak your word it is like a hammer that breaks the devices of the enemy in pieces and overcomes every negative situation. Amen.

Take heed to what God has given you

Colossians 4:17 “And say to Archippus, take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil it.”

Every man has received something from the Lord. These God given graces, gifts, opportunities, and life must be used to bring glory to his name.

In our opening text, the Apostle Paul by the Spirit admonished Archippus to take heed to the ministry that he has received from the Lord.

In other places, people were also encouraged to take the call of God serious (Ephesians 4:1). Again in Romans believers are admonished not to take the grace of God for granted.

Whatever God has blessed you with is worth keeping and using. This is what will make you fulfil your destiny. You see, you can’t fulfil a divine purpose with your own ability, and neither can you fulfil a divine purpose with your own resources.

You see, God by his wisdom orders your steps into greatness by the gifts, graces, and the opportunities he gives you.

Keeping your focus on what God has blessed you with is one sure way to fulfil your destiny.

Read: Ephesians 2:10 “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them”

Prayer:  Dear Lord, I’m grateful for giving me a destiny and whatever I need to fulfil it. I ask for the help of the Holy Spirit that nothing will distract me from taking heed to whatever you have given me. Amen!

THAT SAME SPIRIT

Acts 19:2 “and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” (NIV)

Some Christians have received the Holy Spirit but are not acquainted with His power and ministry in their lives. They don’t know the awesomeness of this wonderful third person of the Godhead, hence they live ordinary lives.

You see, the Holy Spirit that you received at salvation is the same spirit that came on the people of old and they did exploits in life. David stood face to face with a lion and a bear (1 Samuel 17:34-35). It was that same Spirit that came upon him when as a stripling he felled the great giant of Gath by the name Goliath.

In fact, it was this same Holy Spirit that came upon Samson and caused him to outwit one thousand trained men of war with the jawbone of an ass (Judges 15:15). Not only that, his victory over the men of Ashkelon is nothing but by the power of the Holy Spirit (Judges 14:19).

What about Joshua, the man who succeeded Moses. It was the same Holy Spirit that worked in his life causing him to command the sun and the moon to stand still for a whole day (Joshua 10:12). That same Spirit worked with him and on Elijah, Elisha, Solomon and ultimately the Lord Jesus Himself.

The Bible says Jesus had the Spirit without measure. He had the fullness of the Spirit which enabled him to do exploits whiles on earth.

John 3:31-34 from the New International Version (NIV) of the Bible says “The one who comes from above is above all; the one who is from the earth belongs to the earth and speaks as one from the earth. The one who comes from heaven is above all. He testifies to what he has seen and heard, but no one accepts his testimony. Whoever has accepted it has certified that God is truthful. [34] For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit”

As a Christian you have the Holy Spirit in you. You must understand his ministry and power in you. This is what will make you do exploit even more than the people of old.

You see, with the Spirit you will do greater works than what Jesus did.

See John 14:12 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.”

Read: John 14:16 “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever”

Prayer: Dear Father, thank you for the precious Holy Spirit you have given me. Help me always to be conscious of His presence in my life. Lord, I pray for grace to follow the leadings of the Holy Spirit in my life. Amen
