Ephesians 6:18 “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people” (NIV).
There are different ways by which we can pray. You can pray with and in the spirit, and you can pray with your understanding. 1 Corinthians 14:15 says “So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my understanding; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my understanding.”
In praying with your spirit, and in the spirit, you allow yourself to be fully influenced by the Holy Spirit to make utterances by the will of God. This may sometimes be in groanings, or syllables that is unusual.
Praying with your understanding is also praying with your intuition or mind fully dominating in the process. Although, both ways of praying can be engaged, the Bible encourages that, the believer prays on all occasions in the spirit.
Praying on all occasions means, praying daily, constantly, and consistently. That will also mean that, you must give yourself to be fully led and influenced by the Holy Spirit to pray.
You see, looking at the preceding verses, before the instruction “pray in the spirit”, it means that praying in the spirit is one antidote against satanic and any demonic activity.
Read: Romans 8:26:“Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered”
