The Power of the Spoken Word

Mark 11:23 says “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them”
In the scripture above, Jesus showed the tremendous power in the words we speak.
This truth was made known to the disciples after Jesus had spoken to a fig tree that dried up afterwards.

You see, when Jesus spoke to the tree in the natural, nothing happened. That’s why the disciples never questioned Jesus.
See Mark 11:14 -Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it.

Nonetheless, as they passed the next day, the tree had died out. Mark 11:20 says “In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots”
Meaning that, when the “words” were released something happened spiritually. The tree actually died out. It just needed time to manifest.

As you go about your Christian life, know that there is power in the words you speak. You can speak your healing, deliverance or blessings. Never speak words that will hold you in bondage.

Sow Better things in life

“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows” (Galatians 6:7).
One important thing that characterizes the life we live is “reaping what we sow”. This makes life more like a “harvest”.

This is the very reason why the Bible admonishes us to sow good seeds (things) in life. As a Christian you must decide on the kind of seeds you want to sow today because no seed sown dies without manifesting in the near future.

You see, it will just be a matter of time and every seed sown- whether good or bad, will show up. In fact, it will be gradual, little by little but will without fail come up.

As a Christian, you have access to the Spirit of God and the word of God that will direct you as to what to do, how to do them, and thus, sow good seeds in life.
Galatians 6:8 says “whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life”.

Don’t be led by the flesh to sow wrong seeds.
People who never consider this simple rule will jeopardize their future. Remember every choice is a seed, every action is a seed whether seen by people or not, you will one day live to reap them.
Sow better things and you will be glad you did.

Speak evil of no man

1 Peter 3:10 says “For, Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech”.
As Christians, God expects that we speak ill of no man. James 3:2 tells us that we have control over our body once we have control over our speech.

Thus one virtue you must practice in life when it comes to what you say, is “NEVER SPEAK EVIL OF ANY MAN”.
Titus 3:2 makes this truth more clearer. “Speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men”.

To speak evil of no man demands that don’t utter or make defamatory statements injurious to the reputation or well-being of other persons. It means that, you must not practice slander, gossip, backbiting or give false accusations about people.

You see, words are such that, any word carelessly spoken cannot be taken. Thus any bad information you pass out about someone even in a passive way can go a long away to destroy the person or ruin their future.
Today there are many people hurting and suffering because of something that someone said about them.

Not only that, many meaningful relationships have being crushed because of slander.
Proverbs 16:28 says “A perverse man sows strife, and a whisperer separates the best of friends. How many times have people become alienated because of slander other people spread about them?

From today, be a master of speaking. Let no evil proceed of your mouth about someone.

Follow the way of love

1 Corinthians 14:1 says “Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy”

There are many ways you can take in life. Nonetheless, the way of love stands out. You can call it the linchpin, because it holds the rest together.

Following the way of love means you follow the teachings or the values of love.
The Bible says love is patient, kind, and selfless (1 Corinthians 13). Thus, any time you exercise kindness, patience, and selflessness in your dealings with people, you are on the way of love.

You see, following the way of love must be independent of what people do to you or what you feel especially in relation to hurts and pains suffered in dealing with people.

In following the way of love, you must hear and give in to the voice of the Holy Spirit in you because the love of God is shed abroad in your heart by Him.
Never allow your flesh, or your human nature to make you go off the way of love.

Get understanding!

Proverbs 4:7 says “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding”.
You need understanding to thrive in life. That’s why the Bible says in all that you will get, GET UNDERSTANDING.

To “understand” means to know or realize how or why something happens. It also means to know how something works or why it is important.
Understanding also means knowing or realizing the meaning of words, a language, what somebody says, etc.

You see, reading something or hearing what is being said is not synonymous to having understanding. Knowing what is said, why it is said, reveals that you have understanding.

As a Christian, your understanding of the word of God is what will bring you into your God-given destination. Not only that, when you have understanding to issues in life, you are able to make wise choices, relate well with people and even have some opportunities.
Pray that the Lord will give you the heart of understanding.

Receiving the promises of God through faith

Hebrews 11:1 says
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Living by faith is the surest way to receive anything from the Lord. As Christians, its our mandate to walk by faith since it is the only way to please our Heavenly Father .

The Bible or the word of God contains promises on every subject and on every single detail of our lives. But how can we receive or have access to all these promises? It’s only through faith!

You see, it’s by faith that the people of old obtained the promises of God.
GThey obeyed the word of the Lord concerning their lives without wavering.

Taking God by his word and acting on it is what brings us the results we desire. Nonetheless, believing God doesn’t mean the absence of challenges or temptations to doubt. Rather it is staying strong and holding on to the promises in the face of all these challenges.

What are you believing God for today?
Never give up! Study the word. Build your faith. Confess the word and live it out.

Read: Hebrews 10:38 “Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.”

Do you want to win the prize?

1 Corinthians 9:24 says “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize”.
A prize is given as a reward to the winner of a competition or in recognition of an outstanding achievement. No one gets a prize for doing nothing.

Our opening text teaches that, in athletics, until a person runs in a particular way, he or she is not qualified to receive a prize. This natural phenomenon is no different from the spiritual. That’s to say, Christians who want to have a prize at the end of the day must go about their call and mandate in a particular way.

The Bible teaches two great principles that can help you earn a prize in your walk with God.
1 Corinthians 9:25 reveals the need for “strict training”. In other words, there is the need for discipline or self control in carrying about your Christian duties.
The next verse ( 1 Corinthians 9:26) also shows the principle of “focus”. These two principles when constantly and wholeheartedly engaged brings you to the place where you will earn a reward.

Remember that, God’s word has promised us a reward or prize (Revelation 22:12). But it will be according to your input or doings.

Read: Revelation 22:12 “And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.”

Faith and works

James 2:17-18 says “Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works”

Having results in life as a Christian is dependent on how you engage your faith. Knowing how to release your faith through works is what will give you victory in every aspect of your life.

Faith is not as mysterious as some think. Faith is also not something for the selected few. Faith is simply knowing God’s word- his promises concerning your life and making it your own.
Thus, before you can exercise your faith, you must know the word of God, you must believe it, and you must demonstrate it in your works.

You see, believing in the promises of God, whether in the area of healing, deliverance, prosperity, marriage, etc., won’t do you any good until you take a corresponding action.
For instance if you believe you are healed, you don’t confess sickness, you confess healing and health, and you start to do what you couldn’t do before.
Also, if you believe you’ve been made prosperous, you talk and take actions in that light.

Don’t say you believe God’s word, and deny the word expression in your works.

Read: Hebrews 11:6 “But without faith it is impossible to please him : for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

Selflessness, the path to greatness

Philippians 2:4-5 says “Do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Have this same attitude in yourselves which was in Christ Jesus [look to Him as your example in selfless humility]”.

Selflessness or being concerned with other people’s interests is one sure way to greatness in life. It was the path Jesus took that has brought us liberty and also gave him a name above all names.

You see, being selfless is a choice. It is a decision you must make and carry out from your heart.
Selflessness is not a spiritual gift and neither is it a talent.
Thus, until you commit yourself to being selfless, you won’t live with that “mandate”.

As Christians, we must follow the example of Jesus when it comes to being selfless. The Bible says that He stripped himself off his reputation and glory, to put the interest of humanity first. He suffered, and went through humiliation just to be a blessing to the entire human race.

Today, it is your turn to be selfless. Will you follow the Lord’s example ? Have you put aside your status and reputation to promote the course of God? Can you sacrifice your life, time, money and gifts for others? Prioritize this great act now.

Remember that, your greatness is not in being selfish or putting your interest first.

Don’t live in fear.

2 Timothy 1:7 says, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind”.
Living in fear is not God’s will for believers. Thus, as a Christian you must resist every temptation to live in and with the fear of the devil, and every satanic onslaught.

You see, when you live in fear, you allow the spirit of fear to rule, dominate and influence your life. Fear is not a feeling as some people think. Fear is more than a feeling. It is an evil spirit from the pit of hell that brings a sense of insecurity into the mind of the believer. It is a spirit that brings torments or torture to the believer and creates a sense of inferiority complex.

People who live in fear are limited. Their minds are most often negative towards life. Fear has limited people from attaining greater heights in life than any other thing has. It is fear that keeps people from advancing in life. It is a spirit that retards progress and brings stagnation. Some folks have let the spirit of fear dominate them to the extent that they no longer remain at ease in life.

As a believer you got to stand your ground and resist this evil spirit. You must not live with the spirit of fear having the best of you. You have the spirit of boldness and of love.

Don’t let the fear of the future, the fear of death which are some of the activities of the spirit of fear hold you captive.
Break forth and shine!
No more FEAR.
