Matthew 23:10–11 “Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ. But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.”
Everyone desires greatness. Deep within, every person longs to be relevant and impactful in life. Yet, greatness does not come by wishful thinking or loud ambition. True greatness is born out of a life of humble service. The way up is the way down.
Jesus made it clear that the greatest among us is the one who serves. Greatness in the Kingdom is measured, not by how many people serve you, but by how willingly you serve others. Service is the price for greatness, and humility is the posture that keeps you faithful in it.
Look at Joseph, the son of Jacob. Though betrayed and sold into slavery, he did not let pride or pain stop him from serving. In Potiphar’s house, he served with diligence and integrity. His service earned him favour, and he was made overseer of his master’s house. When temptation came, he resisted, choosing righteousness over pleasure. Even when falsely accused and thrown into prison, he still served wholeheartedly.
Service took Joseph from the pit to the palace. When the time came, his gift and character spoke for him, and Pharaoh called him to serve in the highest office in the land. That is the power of faithful service, it never leaves you where you are.
Service exposes you to people, opportunities, and experiences that build your character and enlarge your capacity. But it also tests your heart. Many fail the test because of ego, pride, or a sense of entitlement. They want recognition without responsibility, titles without toil, and elevation without effort. If you want to rise, you must put these attitudes aside and embrace humility.
Wherever you find yourself, in church, at work, in marriage, or among your peers, serve. Serve fully, serve joyfully, and serve with integrity. Seek opportunities to be useful rather than seen. Let humility be your walk and talk. For in the Kingdom of God, every act of genuine service is a seed that heaven honours.
Do not despise the lowly task or small assignment. Serve as unto the Lord, and He will lift you in due time. The blessing that comes with service is greater than any earthly promotion, for it carries divine approval and lasting honour.
Read: Luke 22:27 “For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.”
Prayer:Lord, teach me to walk in humility and to find joy in serving others. Help me to see service as my path to greatness and to do it with sincerity of heart.
