DON’T IMITATE WHAT IS EVIL.

3 John 1:11
“Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but [imitate] what is good. The one who practices good [exhibiting godly character, moral courage and personal integrity] is of God; the one who practices [or permits or tolerates] evil has not seen God [he has no personal experience with Him and does not know Him at all].”

What you imitate or copy can either make or unmake you. As Christians, the Lord enjoins us to imitate only what is good.

In 1 Corinthians chapter 11, the bible gives the standard for what we must imitate or copy. The verse eleven says “Imitate me, just as I imitate Christ”. Thus, anything you imitate, copy, or follow must be “Christ centered” or in sync with what the Lord prescribes in his word.

Many people today including believers are imitating the wrong characters, behaviors and bad ways of doing things. This is because most people are are not mindful of what they are copying. Thus, they follow anything so long as it offers some personal gain.

You see, just imitating everything or anything without checking whether it is in line with God’s word can ruin your life. Whether in the area of spirituality, fashion, relationship, marriage, career, money matters, etc., don’t just copy what people do.
Imitate only the good that is consistent with the Lord’s will and save yourself from any unbearable consequences.

Read: 1 Thessalonians 5:22 “Abstain from every form of evil [withdraw and keep away from it].”

Prayer: Lord, I pray that you will open my eyes to see and imitate things that are consistent with your word.

FAITH BELIEVES BEFORE IT SEES.

Hebrews 11:1
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen”.

Anytime you are walking in faith, you believe in the reality of God’s promises for your life before they even manifest.
That’s to tell you that when you operate in faith, you don’t see before you believe. No, not at all! You first and foremost believe before you see.

This is the very reason why folks who are governed solely by their senses can’t make any progress in the faith walk.

Anytime you hear God’s word regarding a promise or put a request before the Lord, all you have to do is to believe that it’s done and start thanking God. Don’t ask “Lord when?” or say things like “why me?” because believing that God has done something for you must put joy and gratitude in your heart.

Remember, faith looks “not at the things which are seen” (2 Corinthians 4:18).
Many people who are struggling today in their walk with God want to see before they believe. But don’t forget that faith only accepts as real and true what God’s word says. Once God’s word has said it, it’s settled.

Believe! BELIEVE!! BELIEVE!!! and don’t wait for any physical manifestation.

Read: John 20:29 “Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed”

Prayer: Lord, grant me the grace to operate and see through the lens of faith.

PUT OFF THE OLD MAN AND PUT ON THE NEW MAN.

Ephesians 4:22, 24
“That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness”

One of the greatest miracles in life is being born again. It is an encounter that brings life to your dead spirit and makes you alive.
Not only that, it also imparts the nature and the virtues of God into you. This is what makes a person new.

Therefore to successfully live out the new life, you must put off the old man by not letting your carnal or natural desires rule your life.

By knowledge of the word, you must live out the new identity or the new life you have in Christ.
This is how you put on the new man.

Anytime you put on the new man you deny the flesh access to control you.
Ephesians 4:25-27 teaches some things to put off and what to put on. It says “Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. [26] Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: [27] Neither give place to the devil.”

Read: Ephesians 4:22 “That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts”

Prayer: Lord, i thank you for your finished work on the cross which has allowed me to live a new life in Christ.

DANGERS OF OFFENCE.

Ephesians 4:2-3
“with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; giving diligence to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”

Our opening scripture admonishes us to be long suffering and to be patient with one another in love. This is to say that we should be able to tolerate each other as Christians, no matter what happens.

In as much as you are to do good to people always, there may be shortcomings sometimes. You might miss it by offending people and others may also miss it by offending you. Nonetheless you have to forgive rather than keeping or brooding over the offense.

You see, offences are like seeds that takes roots in our hearts, and when not checked has the capacity to bear very dangerous fruits. These fruits are the consequences we might face and may include ; bitterness, unanswered prayers, poor health conditions among others.
The above dangers associated with offences makes it a no good way to travel.

Mark 11:25 and Proverbs 17:22 tells how forgiveness is important to our prayer life and our health.
Holding on to an offence has the tendency to destroy your health in the long run. It can bring you strange illness and diseases like cancer, heart attack, etc.

Finally, keeping offences can open you up for demonic activities.

Let love lead, and not offence.

Read: Colossians 3:13
“forbearing one another, and forgiving each other, if any man have a complaint against any; even as the Lord forgave you, so also do ye:”

Prayer: Lord, I pray that the seed of offense will not find it way in my life in Jesus name.

THE WITNESSING POWER.

Acts 1:8
“But you will receive power and ability when the Holy Spirit comes upon you; and you will be My witnesses [to tell people about Me] both in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and Samaria, and even to the ends of the earth.”

Every Christian has been empowered by the Holy Spirit to preach the gospel. Thus, when it comes to witnessing, it is no more about having the ability or not, but rather willingness or obedience.

You see, God’s charge to us this last days is to reach out to the unsaved. He wants us to testify of His goodness and to make Jesus known to the entire world.

God has put the world’s transformation on the wheels of the gospel. You must know that, the name of Jesus needs to be exalted so that many can be saved.

As a Christian, God has chosen and equipped you with the word and power to preach. You have been given power to function. Refuse shyness, fear and laziness from hindering you.

Be ready to preach the word both in season and out of season. Don’t be ashamed to preach the Gospel, because it releases power (Roman 1:16) that brings salvation and healing. Receive the grace to be a carrier of God’s message!

Read: 2 Timothy 4:2 “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine”

Prayer: Lord, I thank you for releasing in me the power to be a witness to the truth.

SEE WITH THE LENS OF FAITH.

2 Corinthians 4:18
“While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal”.

As a believer, you must learn to see things with the eyes of faith. Looking at things with the natural eyes will only make you draw conclusions or make decisions that will take you out from experiencing God’s glory.

The Bible says “don’t look at the things which are seen”. You see, whatever you see physically is temporal. But for you to have the miraculous, you must see the unseen through the eyes of faith.
You must see the word, you must see God’s promises and hold on to them

You see, it will be nothing but carnality when you limit life to sensuality- what you can see, feel, touch, etc. People who live with this mindset never make progress in their walk with God.

Be a person of faith and be fully persuaded to hold on to God’s word contrary to what evidences you may see with your natural eyes or in the physical.

Read : 2 Corinthians 4:17 “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;”

Prayer: Lord, I refuse to be dominated by the physical things I see. I pray for grace to always look at things with the lens of faith. Amen

THE WINNING WISDOM.

Proverbs 24:3
“Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established”

Wisdom is an important factor for success in life. When you lack wisdom, you don’t make positive strides in life.

You see, wisdom brings great profit to the believer. It is the source of riches and honour (Proverbs 8:18-19). The fruit of wisdom is indeed better than fine gold. Wisdom has something excellent and extraordinary to give to those who possess her.

By wisdom your dignity and status in life is raised. Kings reign, and rulers decree justice by wisdom.

Anytime you think about making significant changes in your life and walk with God, consider walking in wisdom. Consider living the word of God, which is God’s wisdom. Consider living like Jesus, for the Bible says in him dwells all the treasures of wisdom. Consider obeying the very words that fell from the lips of Jesus when he walked on the face of the earth.
Never hesitate to follow instructions from the word. This is how you can open yourself up for wisdom.

In all your endeavours it is wisdom that will make you set a standard or stand out in life. It will make you a builder. It will make you become a blessing to your generation.

No one walking in wisdom, ends up being a good for nothing. It is worth walking in wisdom.

Read: Proverbs 8:34-35 “Watch daily at the gates where wisdom is broadcast. For whoever finds wisdom, finds life and obtains favour from the Lord”

Prayer: Lord I pray that I will never be hesitant in following instructions from your word.

PUT AWAY THE TRADITION OF MEN.

Mark 7:8
“For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.”

Most traditions of men and God’s word does not go in the same direction. God’s word comes from Him alone and the traditions of men comes from men. There is no meeting point between God’s word and the tradition the world subscribes to.

In any case, it is carnal thinking that will make you think that the traditions of men are better than God’s word.
You see, there is no man made rule, practice, convention, norm, way of doing something or beliefs that can make our world better than God’s word.

The Jews in the times of old were caught up in the same trap. They upheld to tradition of men and not long enough they had nothing to do with God’s word. They went all out for the things that men had instituted and left God’s word.

Our generation is not different. We have become a bunch of Christians that follow the directions, traditions of men without considering the word of God.

You see, anytime you follow tradition, God’s word becomes unproductive in your life.
There are folks who remember the tradition of men than the word of God. No wonder nothing works for them although they are born again.

Instead of being consumed by tradition, be an adherent to God’s word. Never be carried away by the crowd.
Your worship and fellowship with the Lord should never be interrupted by anything.

If you are to follow anything at all, it should be something consistent with the truth revealed in the word.

Read: Psalm 119:128 “Therefore I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right; and I hate every false way”

Prayer: Lord, I refuse to be carried away and be entangled with the traditions of men.

THE POWER OF WORDS.

Proverbs 15:1-2
“A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger. The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.”

Words are powerful and as a believer it demands that you choose your words carefully before you utter them. Our opening verse gives an account of the impact of words; that it can either bring peace or chaos.

You see, choosing your words carefully will help you keep and maintain relationships the Lord has blessed you with. Thus, choosing your words carefully in the course of interacting with your spouse, children, and colleagues at work, school or church will help you promote peace and love.

Applying wisdom in your speech can also open great doors for you. God blesses your works and brings your way great people who can thrust you forward into your destiny because you won’t destroy them with your words.

As a Christian, learn to choose your words carefully. In all you do and say, be guided by the Spirit and the word of God so that you will be a blessing to your generation.

Read: Proverbs 18:21 “Death and life are in the power of the tongue; And they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”

Prayer: Lord, I pray grace and wisdom to choose my words carefully.

HAVE DOMINION OVER SIN.

Romans 6:12
“Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires”

The born again Christian has been freed and delivered from the power of sin. That means, sin has no power over the believer (Romans 6:14).

Know that, the moment Christ became the Lord over your life, you entered into freedom (Galatians 5:1).
But now that you have been set free, it’s dependent on you to keep yourself from being under the bondage of sin.

You see, even though the devil will still try to influence you to sin, you must decide not to yield.
Psalm 4:4 says, “Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah
Standing in awe is one way to keep your freedom in the Lord. It means constantly walking in reverence to God. This “holy fear” will help you not to “make a practice of sinning”.
You see, living in sin as a child of God, is one of the greatest dishonor to God.

Today, we have some believers who take God for granted. They lie, steal, cheat, get involved in immoral stuffs and still “take things cool” as if nothing has happened.
But the Bible says, ‘stand in awe”. Have reverence for God. Don’t treat God’s sacred temple which is your body with contempt. In other words, don’t corrupt yourself.

Remember that, nothing but a fiery judgment is what awaits anyone who takes “grace” for granted and uses it as a license to sin.
Refuse to bring yourself under any wrong and satanic influence.
Walk in the new life and fight any attempt of the enemy to influence you to sin.

Read: 1 John 3:8-9 “He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God”

Prayer: Lord, I thank you for breaking the chains of sin over my life and giving me power to have dominion over it.
