The power of earnest prayer

1 Kings 17:1
And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the Lord God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

It is effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man that produces results. The Bible puts it this way : “the earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available, dynamic in its working”.

In fact, earnest prayer is serious prayer. It comes from your innermost being.
James gives Elijah as an example of a righteous man who prayed and got results. Elijah was a man subject to like passions as we are. In other words, he faced challenges and was subject to pressures and temptations just like we are today, but the Bible says he “… PRAYED EARNESTLY THAT IT MIGHT NOT RAIN…”

His prayer availed. God wants you to know that, you can also change adverse situations surrounding your life and family when you shut yourself in your prayer closet and apply this method of prayer.

As a Christian you are created to prevail in every area of you life, bringing strange and adverse situations down down through earnest prayer.

Never undermine the power of fervent prayer, resort to it and the dynamic power of God will change things to your favor.

James 5:16
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

Prayer: Lord, I pray for grace to stand fervent in pray at all times. Amen

The strength that prevails

Habakkuk 3:19
The Lord God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments.

God is a good God and among His provisions is Strength and uncommon fitness. He wants us well so that we can be up to the task he has given.
It takes the strength of God to do the impossible. Man’s strength is always subjected to limitation and stagnation. With the strength of man one may turn weary and weak but the strength that come from God will cause you to thrive even in the face of adversity.
The bible says that His grace is sufficient and His strength is made perfect in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).

You see, what you need is the strength from above. In fact you need the strength that prevails. God has given you something beyond the ordinary.
Desist from relying on your own strength and become conscious of the strength that comes from above, for by human strength shall no man prevail.

Isaiah 40:31
But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Prayer: Lord, I pray that from today I will be conscious to walk in this divine provision you have deposited in me. Amen

Obey your Pastor!

Hebrews 13:17:
“Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you”.

Although this truth will be contested and argued against by many simple minded folks, it still does not change what God’s word says.

Obeying your Pastor is a must and there is nothing that can be done against the truth.
You see, your Pastor is a spiritual authority that God has set over you.

Your Pastor watches over your soul and he must give an account to God on that. See Hebrews 13:17: “Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you”.

Never be misguided by the deception in the world today that has made and still making mockery of Pastors. Your Pastor is God’s gift to you. God has given you a Pastor to safeguard your eternal destination.

See what the Lord said through the Prophet Jeremiah. Jeremiah 3:15 says “And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.”

You see, contrary to popular opinion, Pastors are God given and not humanly selected. You can’t go and shop for a Pastor. It is God that gives you one.

Receive and relate well with your Pastor and you will be blessed. Remember that, leaving in disobedience to the word of God your Pastor is teaching you can bring you great loss or even send you to Hell.

Jeremiah 3:15 “And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.”

Prayer: Lord, I pray for grace to now and always take heed to every instruction of my pastor. Amen

The name Jesus

Philippians 2:9
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

The name Jesus is one of the great weapons that God has made available to the body of Christ. This name is not a mere religious jargon. It is a name loaded with power and recognised in both Heaven and hell.

The Bible says, the name of Jesus is above every name. (Philippians 2 :9). Meaning, the name is above any sickness, disease, challenge or trouble known to the world.
At the mention of the name Jesus miracles are released. Angels are always ready to go and accomplish what ever the name has been mentioned for.
The name of Jesus made whole a certain man lame from his mother’s womb. As soon as Peter said “in the name of Jesus rise up and walk” and lifting the lame man up, his ankles and feet immediately received healing.

The name of Jesus has brought freedom to the captive, healed the broken hearted, turned negative situations around for good and has brought salvation to this dying world. This is the same name the people of old knew and believed in and their lives changed tremendously.

The power in this name Jesus is still effective as it was in the Bible days. For he is still the same yesterday, today and forevermore.

Never leave this name and resort to any other name for the Bible said “there is no other name given amongst men where by we might be saved” Acts 4:12

Read: Acts 4:12
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Prayer:Lord, I thank you that through the name of Jesus victory is my portion in every area of my life. Amen

Return to your first love.

Revelation 2:4
“But I have this [charge] against you, that you have left yourfirst love [you have lost the depth of love that you first had for Me]”

One remarkable truth revealed in the bible is that God considers and evaluates our love for him from time to time. His assessment is to ensure that we remain in our love walk with him.

The book of Revelation shows how after some years God assessed the love of one of the Churches- the church of Ephesus. Although the church, that’s the believers in the gathering had some works done to their credit, God didn’t see their love for Him to be the same as it used to be. The people in
the church had left or fallen off from the deep love they had for God, some years back.

Our opening text shows God’s charge to his saints or believers to return to the love they once had for him. This means that, if you don’t make a conscious effort to nurture your love for God, it will dwindle with time or may not be there at all.

Don’t just be busy going about life. Make time to have deep fellowship with God, through personal worship, prayer, and word study. Also, be careful to associate with people who love the Lord and are Christ conscious in all their doings. This is how you can be assured of keeping your love for God
ablaze.

Read: 1 John 4:19 “We love, because He first loved us” (AMP)

Prayer: Lord I pray for the grace to be always zealous in my love for you.

Love and spiritual gifts

1 Corinthians 12:31
“But earnestly desire and strive for the greater gifts [if acquiring them is going to be your goal]. And yet I will show you a still more excellent way [one of the choicest graces and the highest of them all: unselfish love]”

Love is considered the “more excellent way” to getting a spiritual gift. Inasmuch as the bible says one should desire for spiritual gifts, it encourages also that the more excellent way to getting them or receiving
them is by love.

Meaning that, when you are not walking in the love for God and love for man, you will make it difficult if not impossible to be endowed with spiritual gifts. So, it will be a waste of time, to be praying for spiritual gifts
like working of miracles, healing, faith, prophecy, discerning of spirits, diverse kinds of tongues, interpretation of tongues, word of wisdom and knowledge, when you have neglected the basic requirement of love.

You see, spiritual gifts are given by God to profit the body of Christ and the entire world. 1 Corinthians 12:7 says, “But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal”. Therefore, it will be out of place for these gifts to be endowed in a selfish person or someone who doesn’t walk in love. This is one main reason why the church is spiritually deficient in
this area.

God is ever ready to give these manifestations to us as Christians, but it
depends more on us- as to whether we can choose the excellent way of walking in love.

Read: 1 Corinthians 13:1 “If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal”

Prayer: Lord, I thank you for the grace to walk in love, let it be accompanied
with manifestations of the spirit. Amen.

Let brotherly love continue

Hebrews 13:1
“Let love of your fellow believers continue”

Walking in love towards people is not a one-off event or happening. Love is our life as Christians, so we must make it reflect in all that we do. Hebrews 13:1 emphasizes the need for us to continue loving our fellow believers.

You see, it is not always the case that a person would want to walk in love
towards people. Well, as Christians we have the nature to love and the instructions to also love, but sometimes, happenings and circumstances can make you do otherwise. For instance, someone may decide not to walk in love towards someone or a particular gender or even tribe or race
because of an unfortunate experience he or she might have encountered.

Thus, the instruction in God’s word to continue in love or let love continue comes to address the factors or reasons a person may give contrary to walking in love. Bear in mind that sometimes the people you walk in love towards may abuse your love or take it for granted. But this notwithstanding, let brotherly love continue. Don’t hold grudges or get to the place of becoming bitter or offended in people.

Love forgives. Never walk out of love or refuse to walk in love because someone did that to you. Go beyond the offence, go beyond the hurt, go beyond the unfortunate happenings and love.

Read: Matthew 5:44-45 “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.”

Prayer: Father Lord, I pray for grace to walk in love towards people irrespective of what may come my way

Loveless actions don’t profit

1 Corinthians 13:3
“If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing”

Our opening scripture reveals that we can give to people or even die hard for people not because we love them but for other ulterior motives. This means that God goes beyond our actions and looks at the heart – where love emanates.

Thus, no matter how you do things for people, if it is not coming from love, it will profit you nothing. Well, if you give to people for your selfish reasons, you may have your returns in the flesh, but when it comes to God, there is no reward for you.

As a Christian, you must also let your giving, and what you do for people come from the heart of love. By this, you will not attach strings to what you do for people or play “give and take.”

Why do you give to people? Why do you show kindness to people? What motivates what you do for people? If it is not from the spirit of love, it will profit you nothing.

Read: 1 Corinthians 16:14 “Do everything in love” (NIV)

Prayer: Lord, I pray for grace to give to the work of God, and people out of
love

Love doesn’t delight in evil

1 Corinthians 13:6
“Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth”

Love as a virtue doesn’t produce vices. So, when you are walking in this new
nature, we have from being born again, you must not delight in evil. You can’t for the sake of love do something untoward. We have people today who, in the name of love – support people who are clearly wrong instead of correcting or rebuking them.

You can’t walk in love and delight in evil. Since love is the nature of God, and God is without evil, you can’t subscribe to this virtue and live in sin or give yourself up to practicing evil.

Some young people also in the name of “I love this girl, or I love this boy” go to the extreme in engaging in sexual immorality and its related activities. But that’s no love at all. No one walking in the God-kind of love will let you disobey God’s word on holiness or purity for any reason.

When it is love, or when you walk in love, the fruits of it will certainly be something in line with God’s word. Never be deceived to use your feelings to determine what love is and what love is not. In any case, love is bigger than your feelings and love is also not feelings. Get it right and you will never go and sin thinking you are in love.

Read: Ephesians 4:22-24 “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness (NIV).

Prayer: Lord, I pray for grace to walk in love and never yield to doing wrong
or living against your will.

Love binds

Colossians 3:12-14
“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity”

The Christian life is mainly about displaying the virtues and excellencies of Christ in our daily life. It ranges from having compassion, to being kind, humble and forgiving in your dealings with people.

The epistle to the Colossians per our opening text also shows one unique feature about love in our Christian life. Love is described as a binding agent. It holds all our actions and virtues together. That’s to say that love keeps you operative and without deficiency in your walk with God and man.

With love, you can use all the other virtues to seek the best interest of other
people. The amplified version of the bible puts it this way “Colossians 3:14:
Beyond all these things put on and wrap yourselves in [unselfish] love, which
is the perfect bond of unity [for everything is bound together in agreement when each one seeks the best for others].” Not only will love bind all these virtues or excellencies, it also binds people or believers together. It makes us dwell together despite our differences. Like one friend puts it, Love puts unity in diversity.

Look at things always from the lenses of love and you will be a peace maker, and a bridge builder in this world.

Read: 2 Peter 1:5-7,But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge,to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness,to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.

Prayer: Lord, I pray for grace to be an agent of peace and unity anywhere I find myself.
