Study God’s word for your self

Acts 17:11 “Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.”

One important element for the success of the Christian is God’s word. God’s word is God’s will, God’s plans and purposes, and God’s orders. But until you give the word your full attention, you can’t become successful in your walk with God.

Thus, as a Christian, you must make studying God’s word a priority. That’s where the quality of your life emanates. Jesus said, the word is Spirit and life. (John 6:63).

You see, it takes the accurate knowledge of what the word says, to build faith and the right perspectives to life. Anyone deficient in the word, will automatically become deficient in life.

Many today are only busy going to Church, and doing ministry related activities, but are ignorant about what the word teaches or say. Others too swallow hook, line and sinker, everything they hear preach without carefully examining it from the scriptures.

The Bible talks of the Berean Christians who were diligent to examine every word they heard from the Pulpit of Apostle Paul.
Don’t live out the study of the word for your pastor. You need your own faith, your own understanding, your own conviction to journey with the Lord.

Don’t be a Christian and be ignorant about what the word teaches. Make it a priority to study and to personally apply what the word prescribes for your daily life.

Read: Joshua 1:8 “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall read [and meditate on] it day and night, so that you may be careful to do [everything] in accordance with all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will be successful.” (AMP)

Prayer: Lord, thank you for your word, I receive grace to study and to obey what it says. Amen

Give heed to instructions

Proverbs 16:20
He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the Lord, happy is he.

Instruction plays a crucial role in our Christian life.

Instruction is a statement that describes how to do something. It is also an order or command.

Anytime you are instructed, you receive directions and guidance as to how to go about your endeavors.
Instructions from God through his word, the Holy Spirit and the pastors helps us to avoid taking the wrong course in life.

You see, sometimes there are some courses or ways that may seem right before your very eyes, but they may end up destroying you. In fact, some choices or decisions that you want to make in life may rather live you in a worse situation. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 16:25 that, “There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”

This is why instructions is a great blessing. Nonetheless, godly instructions may not always be to your taste. In fact, some instructions from God “may seem” to curtail your pleasure in life. But you can be assured of a great future by a godly or divine instruction.

Train yourself to receive and adhere to godly instructions. Instructions are your safeguards against destructions.
Without instruction you may fall prey to the wicked schemes of the devil.

Receive instruction and you will prosper.

He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the Lord, happy is he.

Prayer: Lord, I pray for grace to receive instructions in other for me to prosper in life. Amen

Live in obedience to God’s will

Romans 12:2
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God“.

Obedience is key in the believers walk with God. It is the highest display of your loyalty. Obeying God’s will is to obey his word, hence, God’s will is in his word.

The Bible says in Romans 12:2 that,
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God“.

The will of God is the plan of God, the purpose of God or the thing that God wants done or to be accomplished.

Thus, obedience to God’s will mean that you strictly adhere to God’s plan and purpose for your life. But this can only take place when you transform your mind, because conforming to the world’s standard will hinder you from doing God’s will.

You see, doing the will of God, must be your focus in everything you do. You must not be forced before you yield your life to doing what God desires and wants from you.
Obedience to God must be from a yielded heart and a willing mind.

Remember that, until you immerse yourself in the written word of God and saturate your mind with it, you can’t do the will of God.
That is why it is important for you to search and study God’s word for yourself.

No matter what happens, know that it is better to obey God’s will than to rebel or ‘do your own thing’.

Read: 1John 2:17. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

Prayer: Lord, pray for grace to always be immersed and be saturated in you will irrespective of my own desires that may surface.

Do it now and do it well

Ecclesiastes 3:1
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

Don’t postpone to tomorrow what can be done today. This is the attitude of great achievers.

To achieve great results, you must add urgency and excellence to all that you do in life.
This doesn’t mean you should rush in life. On the contrary, you must do things quickly ones it’s in their right time and season.

For instance, students who spend their learning time playing video games and watching movies hardly ends up with great results.

Procrastinating has gotten many believers into poverty and they have nothing to show for their faith. They spend hours in prayers but do nothing with the guidance and instructions they hear in prayer.

Another thing that has crippled many Christians from success is laziness. They work at nothing but always expect the best out of life and they use excuses like “I’m trusting and waiting on God”. Well, this is nothing, because faith without works is dead.

Always remember that what you have today is as a results of what you did yesterday. Sow nothing today, reap the wind tomorrow.

You must learn to be proactive, apt and excellent in all you do. This is the attitude of great achievers.

Get something done today because, you don’t have all the years at your disposal.

Read: Proverbs 12:24
The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.

Prayer: Lord, I pray for grace and wisdom to do what I must do, do it at the right time and also do it well. Amen

Be Grateful!

1 Thessalonians 5:18
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Being grateful or expressing gratitude is one important virtue in life. It involves showing appreciation and the acknowledgement of something done for you. Any time you are grateful in life, you pause and ponder over your accomplishments to identify the God factor and the human factor that made things possible for you.

You see, irrespective of what you may think, God and other people’s contribution has made many things possible for you in life. That’s why you have no excuse for being ungrateful.
You owe God and the people God gave you some thanks. Never think that is nothing. It is beneficial to be grateful in life.

Most people have become self-conscious and have undermined the virtue of being grateful. In fact, the pressures of today’s world have caused many to be ungrateful in many ways. Many are busy with work, busy with education, and others with their own pursuit. Nobody stops to say “thank you” to God and to the people God brought their way to help in one way or the other.

No matter what happens don’t forget to be GRATEFUL. Remember that, you are what you are because God made it possible. No matter how small it may seem in your eyes, still say “THANK YOU LORD”. Don’t forget to also show appreciation to people God brought your way to make things well for you.

Read: 1 Thessalonians 5:18. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Prayer: Lord, I pray for grace and wisdom to always be be grateful to the pillars that have made things possible in life for me. Amen

Faith dares

Romans 4:18
“Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations; according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be”.

Faith makes you do great and humanly impossible things in life.
When faith is at work, you don’t fear any difficult task that is before you.
Faith gives you courage and a “results mentality” when you are faced with any challenging situation.

The Bible says of Abraham that, in the face of all his trials and hard times, when things seem not to work he believed the Lord.
See Romans 4:18: “Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations; according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be”.

You see, even though he did not see a good situation in the physical he never gave in to that. He was strong in faith. He was simply not moved by the things he was seeing.

The Bible says he was not weak in faith and he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old. In fact, at hundred years, he still believed he was going to have a child.

The Bible also records an account of a woman who suffered for twelve years due to sickness and was made whole because of her faith.
This woman acted contrary to the laws of her day which demands that she remain in isolation because of her condition.

But her faith did not compromise. She was full of the force of faith and went ahead to touch Jesus for her miracle.

It is not too late, with faith you can be assured of a “good report” in the face of trials.

Put your faith to work!

Read : Mark 11:23
For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

Prayer: Lord, I pray that from today I will actively engage my faith to attain all blessings and victories in life. Amen

Value people and treat them well

Hebrews 13:2
Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

In life you come across many people at different times and places. It is therefore important to learn how to value and treat people you meet well.
The Bible gives many accounts where God used men as agents of help to others.

The value you place on people determines how they respond to you and how you will benefit from them.

Apostle Paul said, some men are angels in disguise.
“Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares” (Hebrews 13:2).
The people God brings your way may not always be appealing to your natural judgments and expectations but you must learn to look beyond that to see their God given purpose in your life.

When it comes to treating people well, you must cultivate the habit of not looking down on people. If you remain self centered and carry the ‘me-myself-and-I’ mentality, you will hardly value people or treat them well.

From today, see every man around you as a means of God’s blessing in disguise.

Read: Philippians 2:3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

Prayer: Lord, I pray for wisdom and grace to treat the people you bring my way well. Amen

Don’t be greedy

Isaiah 56:11
Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter.

The extreme desire for material things has caused many people to become greedy in life. Greed is an overwhelming urge to have more of something, usually more than you really need.

The Bible says, “Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter”. (Isaiah 56:11)
Greed can make you pursue material things unwisely.

One truth you must always remember is that, it is not the material things you have in life that makes you valuable to God.

Although men will give you “thumps up” for amassing wealth through fair and foul means, or praise you for getting along with the current trend in both technology and fashion, God’s verdict is simple, “your life is not about the things you have.”

You see, despite the fact that God blesses us with material things when we serve him, these things must not take the place of God.Your heart must not be in your money, phone, house, or the material things you have.

Enjoy the blessings God gives you but keep it “simple”. Also, don’t get carried away in your heart with these material things.

Read: Colossians 3:2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

Prayer: Lord, I pray that I will not be carried away by the extreme desire for material things which eventually leads to greediness.

They look up to him.

Psalm 34:5
“They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed”.

No one who has ever looked up unto God has been put to shame. God has proven to us that we can depend on him to have all our needs met.

To look up to God is to trust and depend on him. Never find it difficult to trust God in the face of adversity.

Most often than not, people say things like, “I’m trusting God” or “let’s see what God will do” but in actual fact, they have their eyes and hopes set on some other sources aside God. This is not trusting or depending on God.

To trust God is to see God as your sole source. They that trust God see all other avenues of help as coming from God.

David had this to say after God has proven to him His dependability.
“The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower“. (Psalm 18:2)

Always be confident that, it’s safe to trust and look up to God, He will never put you to shame.

Read: Psalm 20:7 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.

Prayer: Lord, I pray for grace to always look up to you and trust you even in the face of adversities.

Guard your mind

Philippians 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Not only do you have to guard your heart as a Christian but also your mind. You must guard your mind against wrong thoughts and ideas that comes to you in the course of life.

A thought is an idea, plan or a picture that is formed in your mind, or something that invokes thinking. This is an important thing to consider since your thoughts have a way of influencing your heart and actions.
As a Christian, what you think about or duel on mentally can either make you or break you. Know that, the thoughts you entertain have the power to influence your life negatively or positively.

Even thou you may not have power of the thoughts that comes to you, you can refuse it to settle in your mind by ignoring it or not brooding over it.

You see, any wrong thought you entertain will finally manifest in your life. Remember that, nothing just happens. As one author puts it ” sow a thought, reap an act; sow an act, reap a habit; sow a habit, reap a character“.

Make God’s word your meditation and think on it daily.
Learn to carefully choose the thoughts to dwell on and the grip of wrong thoughts will fully be overthrown in your life.

Read: Philippians 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Prayer: Lord, I pray that grace and mental strength to guard mind my mind against wrong thoughts. Amen
