CHOOSE GOD’S WILL OVER YOUR OWN

Matthew 26:39 “And after going a little farther, He fell face down and prayed, saying, ‘My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will.’”

Following God’s will is the sure path to fulfilling your destiny. However, until you are willing to let go of your own will, God’s will may not fully take shape in your life. Many times, the struggle is not knowing God’s will, but surrendering your own.

In our opening scripture, we see Jesus in a moment of deep prayer, choosing the will of the Father over His own. This shows clearly that everyone has a choice. You can either submit to God’s will or allow your personal desires and ambitions to lead you.

At every point in life, God requires something of you. He leads you in a specific direction and calls you to live in a certain way. This is what His will represents. But often, His will may conflict with what you personally want. In such moments, the responsibility is on you to decide which will must prevail.

In Matthew 26, Jesus faced this very decision. In His humanity, He desired to avoid suffering, yet God’s will required Him to go through the cross for the salvation of mankind. Jesus did not ignore His feelings, but He refused to let them control Him. He surrendered His will and allowed God’s will to stand.

Because He chose God’s will, He became victorious and was highly exalted, receiving a name above every other name as declared in Philippians 2:9. But before the glory came, there was surrender. His will had to give way for God’s will to be established.

In the same way, when you allow God’s will to prevail in your life, you position yourself for His best. Do not harden your heart or resist His leading. True victory comes from surrender, not control.

Read: Mark 3:35 “For whoever does the will of God is My brother and sister and mother.”

Prayer: Lord, give me the grace to surrender my will and follow Your will in every situation. Amen.

STICK TO TRUE TEACHING

2 Timothy 4:3 “The time will come when people will not put up with sound teaching. Instead, they will follow their own desires and gather teachers who tell them what they want to hear.”

One of the most valuable things you can have as a Christian is true teaching. In these times, sound teaching is not just important, it is your protection against deception and confusion. When you miss out on true teaching, your faith becomes weak and your walk with God can easily be compromised.

True teaching presents God’s Word as it is, without adding or removing anything. It points you to God, reveals Him as the only Saviour, and shows you how to live in a way that pleases Him. It does not just make you feel good, it makes you grow right.

It is by giving yourself to true teaching that you remain grounded and established in your faith. True teaching will always call you to live a godly life and to do what is right. Titus 2:11–12 says “God’s grace has appeared to save all people. It teaches us to say no to ungodliness and worldly desires and to live self controlled, upright, and godly lives in this present world.”

Do not be careless or gullible as a Christian. Be intentional about the kind of teaching you expose yourself to. True teaching will correct you, warn you, encourage you, and guide you in the way of God.

Understand that not everything you hear is true. In these times, many teachings are influenced by wrong spirits to lead people away from the truth. Do not be carried away by sweet or appealing words. Test what you hear and stay rooted in the Word.

Develop a sincere desire for the truth and be willing to obey it when you find it. As you do, God will guide and preserve you.

Read: 1 Timothy 4:1 “The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.”

Prayer: Lord, help me to stay rooted in true teaching and to walk in Your truth at all times. Amen.

MASTER CONTROL OVER THINGS AND YOURSELF

Proverbs 25:28 says “Like a city that is broken down and without walls is a man who has no self control over his spirit.”

A major factor that determines success in life is your ability to exercise control. Control brings order, direction, and stability. Without it, things easily go out of hand and become destructive.

While it is important to manage external systems and situations around you, it is even more important to master control over yourself. The greatest form of control is self control. If you can govern yourself, you can handle anything else.

No matter how well you manage people, opportunities, or environments, if you fail to control your own desires and emotions, you will eventually lose ground in life. Many people do not fail because of external pressures, but because they lack control within.

Self control may not be easy, but it is possible. You must learn to regulate your desires, your appetite for pleasure, your emotions, and even your ambitions. When you allow yourself to act without restraint, you open the door for wrong decisions and sinful actions that can ruin your life.

Self control requires conscious and consistent practice. It involves setting limits for yourself in your thoughts, words, and actions so that you do not go contrary to the will of God. It is the discipline of saying no to what is wrong and yes to what is right, even when it is not convenient.

When self control is at work in your life, you will not live carelessly. You will act with wisdom, restraint, and purpose.

Read: Proverbs 29:11 “A fool always loses his temper, but a wise man holds it back.”

Prayer: Lord, help me to exercise self control in all areas of my life and to live in a way that pleases You. Amen.

CHOOSE CONTENTMENT OVER GREED

1 Timothy 6:6–8 “But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.”

Contentment is a state of being satisfied and at peace with what God has provided at every stage of life. It is the ability to appreciate what you have without being pressured by what you lack. When a person is content, they recognize that God’s provision is sufficient for the season they are in.

The Bible places great emphasis on contentment. It teaches us to be satisfied with what we have, who we are, and the path God is leading us on. Jesus said in Matthew 6:25, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?” This shows that life is deeper than material possessions.

When a person lacks contentment, worry and restlessness take over. Such a person is easily driven into the endless pursuit of things without proper direction. As a Christian, you must always examine what is motivating your desire for more. It is not wrong to aspire to grow, achieve more, and improve your life, but your pursuit must not be driven by greed.

In many cases, what people need is not more, but better use of what they already have. A lack of contentment blinds people to the value of what God has already placed in their hands.

You see, when contentment is absent, greed begins to take control. It pushes people to cross boundaries, compromise values, and engage in ventures that can ruin their lives and their walk with God. Greed is never satisfied, and it can lead to destruction if it is not checked.

Do not give in to the pressures of this world that push people into discontentment and reckless pursuits. Learn to be content with what you have while trusting God for increase in His time. Let your ambition be guided by purpose and not by greed.

Read: Hebrews 13:5 “Don’t be controlled by love for money. Be happy with what you have. God has said, “I will never leave you. I will never desert you.”

Prayer: Lord, grant me a contented heart. Help me to appreciate Your provision in every season and keep me from every form of greed. Amen.

BLESSED ARE THE PURE IN HEART

Matthew 5:8 “Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.”

The Passion Translation of our text reads
“What bliss you experience when your heart is pure! For then your eyes will open to see more and more of God.”

You see, the state of our heart is noticeable before God and it also determine some blessings we can access in life.

As Christians, we are admonished to keep a pure heart. Our hearts must be devoid of evil and inordinate lust.

You see, anytime your heart gets it wrong, your life will also do same. The heart is considered the “control center” of a person’s will and thoughts. Thus, before you will get into doing evil or living contrary to God’s will, your heart  flows first in that direction.

Luke 6:45 says “A good man says good things. These come from the good that is stored up in his heart. An evil man says evil things. These come from the evil that is stored up in his heart. A person’s mouth says everything that is in their heart.”

Be determined to keep a pure heart. Let God’s word dominate your heart to align it to God’s will in all situations.

Read: Proverbs 4:23″ Above everything else, guard your heart. Everything you do comes from it.”

Prayer: Lord, I pray for grace to keep my heart from any form of impurity. Amen

CAST YOUR CARES UPON THE LORD

1 Peter 5:7 “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”

Life can be full of pressures, burdens, and unexpected challenges. There are moments of testing, seasons of uncertainty, and times when the weight of life feels overwhelming. Yet, God never designed you to live under pressure. His instruction is clear: cast your cares upon Him.

To cast your cares means to deliberately throw, release, and roll your worries onto the Lord. It is not a suggestion; it is an instruction. God is calling you to transfer the weight of your concerns into His hands.

However, many believers struggle at this point. Instead of releasing their burdens, they hold on to them. They rehearse their worries, magnify their fears, and carry loads that God has already made provision for. Some carry guilt, others carry anxiety about the future, and many carry a deep sense of inadequacy. But the truth remains: whatever you refuse to release will continue to weigh you down.

You see, holding on to your burdens does not solve them. Rather, it will overwhelm you.

You must come to a point where you intentionally refuse to carry what God has asked you to cast. Let go of the guilt. Let go of the fear. Let go of the anxiety. Let go of the pressure to figure everything out on your own. God cares deeply for you, and His care is not passive, it is active and present.

When you truly cast your cares on the Lord, you exchange your anxiety for His peace, your weakness for His strength, and your confusion for His direction. This is the life of rest that God calls you into.

Read: Psalm 8:4 “What is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?”

Prayer: Lord, I release every burden, worry, and anxiety into Your hands today. I choose to trust You completely and walk in Your peace, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

FAITH COMES BY HEARING

Romans 10:17 “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

The importance of faith cannot be overemphasized. It is the pillar, the bedrock on which we thrive as Christians. In fact, the teaching on faith is one subject every believer must hold in high esteem. The Bible makes it clear that we live by faith (Romans 1:17; Galatians 3:11; Hebrews 10:38).

Knowing the victories, successes, and triumphs we can attain by faith is important, but we must first consider how faith comes. Understanding how to receive and build faith must be our starting point whenever this subject is discussed.

You see, many people today know about the power of faith, but they have not mastered the truth of how to receive or build it. Some do not even know how faith truly comes. It is like being told about a beautiful place but not knowing the way to get there.

When it comes to faith, God’s Word clearly shows how it is obtained. Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” God’s Word is the only true source of faith. Hearing and receiving the Word builds faith in your spirit. This is the Bible way of getting faith, yet many miss this simple truth and try other means that lead nowhere.

Some even go as far as praying for faith. But that is out of place. You need faith before you pray, not the other way around. Mark 11:24 says, “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe…” Faith must already be present.

If you want to grow in faith, learn to tune your ears to God’s Word. Do not listen to just anything. Fables and empty stories do not produce faith. Jesus said, “Take heed therefore how you hear” (Luke 8:18). It is time to school yourself in faith through the Word of God.

Your faith is the victory that overcomes the world. Do something about your faith now, before the evil days come. Remember, you will need it to stand and to win.

Read: Mark 5:27–28 “When the woman heard about Jesus, she came up through the crowd behind Him and touched His cloak. For she kept saying, ‘If only I touch His garments, I will be healed.’”

Prayer: Lord, I pray for grace to be consistent with studying Your Word and to live by it daily. Amen.

CHANGE YOUR MIND TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE

Romans 12:2 “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

God desires believers whose lives are consistent with the faith they profess. That is what the mandate of transformation is about. You cannot claim to be a Christian and still live according to the sinful patterns and values of the world.

Before we became born again, we all lived under the power and influence of the devil. We yielded to worldliness, sin, and wickedness because that was the standard by which we lived. Ephesians 2:1–2 says, “And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you used to walk when you conformed to the ways of this world and of the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit who is now at work in the sons of disobedience.”

However, the story changes when you become a Christian. You become a changed person. Although this change first takes place in your spirit, it must also manifest in your daily life. 2 Corinthians 5:17 in the Living Bible says, “When someone becomes a Christian, he becomes a brand new person inside. He is not the same anymore. A new life has begun!” Therefore, what you have become on the inside must be reflected on the outside through the renewing of your mind.

In renewing your mind, you allow your thinking to be reshaped with God’s truth. This renewal happens when you receive God’s thoughts by studying and meditating on His Word.

You see, simply being born again without a conscious effort to study and meditate on God’s Word daily will not automatically produce the virtues of Christ in your life. This is why many Christians fail to shine morally or demonstrate integrity in their daily lives.

A Christian who allows God’s Word to dominate his or her life cannot continue in sin. Such a person cannot remain a liar, a fornicator, a thief, disloyal, mischievous, fraudulent, proud, arrogant, selfish, lazy, or unwise. When you are “Word ruled” and your mind is renewed by the power of the Word, your life begins to reflect the character of Christ. In your daily conduct, people will see the works and words of Jesus manifested through you. This is what Christianity is about.

If you are born again, you are already in the first realm of change. Now renew your mind. Allow the Word of God to change your thoughts. When your thoughts change, your choices and actions will also change.

Read: Ephesians 4:23–24 “To be renewed in the spirit of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”

Prayer: Father, I thank You that I am born again. I pray that the life of the Spirit will dominate me and cause me to have a renewed mind. Amen.

PURSUE PEACE WITH EVERY EFFORT

Hebrews 12:14 “Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.”

Living in peace with people is an essential virtue in the life of the believer. However, peace does not occur automatically. Like every valuable thing in life, it must be pursued intentionally and guarded carefully.

The instruction of Scripture is clear: “make every effort.” This means peace requires deliberate action. It calls for a willingness to pursue harmony, to avoid unnecessary conflicts, and to take steps that preserve good relationships wherever possible.

Living in peace with people demands certain important qualities.

First, you must be love ruled. In other words, allow the love of God to govern your heart and guide your actions. It is through love that genuine peace with others becomes possible. Love enables you to overlook offenses and prevents bitterness from taking root. Proverbs 10:12 says, “Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.”

The second key is wisdom. Dealing with people requires great wisdom, especially when tensions and misunderstandings arise. The Bible teaches that wisdom produces peace in relationships. James 3:17 says, “But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.”

You see, peace is sustained when love and wisdom guide your actions. Love helps you forgive and exercise patience, while wisdom teaches you how to respond rightly in different situations. It helps you know when to speak, when to remain silent, and how to handle tensions without escalating them.

Peace therefore requires conscious effort. It must be created, maintained, and protected. In relationships within the church, in marriages, families, ministries, and even in business dealings, peace will only prevail when people intentionally choose to pursue it.

Do not forget that living peacefully with others is not merely a suggestion; it is a command from God. Choose peace over resentment, peace over conflict, and peace over quarrels.

Read: Matthew 5:9 “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.”

Prayer: Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love. Amen.

WALK AND LIVE BY THE SPIRIT

Galatians 5:25 “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”

The Christian life is a life lived in and with the Spirit. It is characterized by a life influenced by God’s Word and guided by the Holy Spirit. Our new life as Christians has far more to do with the Holy Spirit than with our human and fleshly nature. Becoming born again brings us into this higher realm of life where we live by the Spirit. The Holy Spirit is not only the one who gives us new life, but He is also the one who empowers us to grow, to overcome sin, and to reflect the character of Christ in our daily living.

However, many believers have wandered away from this path. Galatians 3:3 says, “Are you so foolish and senseless? Having begun [your new life by faith] with the Spirit, are you now being perfected and reaching spiritual maturity by the flesh [that is, by your own works and efforts to keep the Law]?”

You see, just as it happened to the Galatians, some Christians begin the Christian life well but do not end well. They try to accomplish things by the flesh after they have started by the power of the Spirit. People like this soon conform to the world and come under the influence of worldly appetites and desires. Instead of relying on God’s strength, they depend on human effort and natural ability.

Thus, for you to journey with the Lord to the end, you must start in the Spirit and continue with Him. As a Christian, you must depend on the Spirit’s guidance in making the choices and decisions of life. In other words, you must not give room for the flesh to rule in any way. Walking in the Spirit means yielding your thoughts, desires, and actions to the influence of the Holy Spirit so that your life increasingly reflects God’s will.

Do not forget that many great destinies have come to a halt because people stopped yielding to the Spirit or neglected His guidance. See what Galatians 6:8 says about this truth: “Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction.”

Continuing in and with the Spirit will keep you on track for the Lord. Get back to the Word, get back to prayer, and get back to yielding to the Spirit. This is your sure path to a victorious Christian life. Continue in the Spirit!

Read: John 16:13–14 “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you.”

Prayer: Father, I pray that by the help of the Holy Spirit, I will live my life according to the leading of the Spirit. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
